When 6th came out with its rules for fortifications I more or less fell in love with the bastion tower. It was fitting for my army I thought but because of a few issues (among them no quad cannon in the package) I never got around to buying one, but bought an ADL instead.

It seems everyone else got the same idea. At least everyone wants cheap AA. But why stop at the ADL? Why not go bigger? I can't recall ever seeing a list featuring fortications with eanything other than an ADL.

Do any of you have experience using a bastion?
If so, how was it?

If not then why not?

I AM going to buy one one day. Hopely it will be used as anything other than just terrain

The thing that makes the ADL so good is the amount of troops you can put behind it. As an IG player, I'll take that 4+ over a 5+ armour save all day long.

My friend used a Bastion in a 500 2vs2 tourney we entered. We hid a GK strike squad inside and a broadside on top. Nobody could really touch it at that point. MVP of our games.

I received one for Christmas last year. I've never put it in an army list but it does get put out as terrain. I only play friendly games so I haven't used it for fear of it being a bit too powerful. I will probably use it in a list before too long but I will tell my opponent before hand.

Great for Sisters. Put rets inside and you get extra rending heavy bolters.

Other than that, I prefer the ADL for most of my armies.

Don't have my RB with me but don't a lot of hits against the building cause those inside to take armor saves? I'm too scared to put anyone with less than MEQ in there and when I'm playing MEQ I have too many other toys I want to spend the points on.

Yes, glances cause hits inside and most results for pens cause hits against the unit inside.

A glance causes the unit to take a wound with saves allowed. And some Pen results cause 2D6 Str6 hits with saves allowed. Models on battlements only take hits on Pens, and the Str is halved.

basically building style fortifications suck because there are more downsides than upsides to them. you can destroy them, kill the guys inside with glances, etc. vs an ADL or skyshield that cannot be taken out.

That being said, im looking at the skyshield more and more. 4+ invul means even templates can be saved against, and lootas are all the quadgun I need. It seems to be the perfect answer to the largest weakness my best shooters had, and thats flamer templates.

isnt a bastion awesome for flyer necrons ? you cant target fortifications when they arent maned and a night fighting storm lord is hard to kill , save maybe with 3 manticors.

Depends on the army you're playing. I faced a GK player who reserved very heavily and Los blocking of the bastion saved him from taking as many casualties as I usually would have turn 1 (DE). I then destroyed it

this is why a bastion put in to the very corner which totaly blocks LoS and doesnt leave enough free space to land a drop pod is an ideal spot to place your storm lord . I mean this isnt something new , necrons play like this since the first day of 6th ed .

The only problem I have seen is that they can blow up/ collapse and cause major pain to any units inside. I have had one for quite some time, but never use it. I only played against one once in 6th. My IG vs SOB. I don't think my opponent will ever use one again. I know if I use one any occupants will have to be expendable.

Either expendable (cultists ) or the thought had crossed my mind of putting 2+ armor guys in there in a tank heavy list. Reduce the pain they feel from small arms fire and in a tank heavy list its just more target saturation.
