How much of a models' base has to be in area terrain to recieve the cover save from it? I've always understood that as long as you have part of your base inside you'll get cover, but it came up tonight and I could only see that it said you had to be in the terrain and my opponent argued that it meant your whole base has to be in.

Closest I can find is on p4, under "Measuring Distances", which states that you use the closest part of the base when measuring distances. I'd say that if the closest part of the base is in terrain (i.e. any of it is), then the model gets the cover save (and would have to roll a difficult terrain test to get there or move out). This is supported by the "Units in Cover" example diagram on p19, where two of the Orks in the crater are only partially in the terrain but are shown to have a cover save.

If any part of your base is in terrain, then you are in it. Just touching might be debatable at the moment, but just slightly on, is on.
