I have a very large Tau force, much more than i need and was considering selling off some of it to start a second army,
i figure if i have two armies of about 3k points each its better than having 1 of 7000 points that i wont ever get to use all of right?
But i cant decide who to play next, i love alot of the models of the dark eldar army but i have no clue how to play them, they would
most likely be my first choice just cause i love the look of them, i also still have some old chaos left that i could begin to build back
on however, im kind of bored with chaos and they will most likely get shelved which is kinda why i sold most of them in the first place
there are also tyranids, but i only like a few models, just looking for suggestions on what would be a good second army to work on after
im done with the tau .

SPACE WOLVES!
Because of the pure awesomeness!
But seriously I think they'd be good because of the great combination I think Tau and Space Wolves could have. With the Tau speed and firepower they lack a certain amount of meatshield and physical fighting that Space Wolves would be perfect to make up for. Sure you could argue Space Marines can do the same thing but they don't have the counterattack SW do. So should your opponent pop out somewhere unexpected you don't need the assault to bash their heads in.

Well, if you're looking at Dark Eldar, maybe consider eldar? They're buddybuddy with tau rather than desperate and tau with eldar psychics is just gorgeous.
Or you could go dark eldar with an eldar allied force that either army can make use of, for even more flexibility. Maybe 2k points of Deldar, 1k of Eldar?

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

I like the dark eldar models better, what are the pros and cons of eldar vs dark eldar?

Dark Eldar have a new codex, poisoned weapons mostly shooting, high init.
Paper kites that explode, terrible armor saves generally, mostly str3 tough3, imagine playing with brittle glass that is how DE are played.

Guard? Tau and Imperial Guard might mesh well in together, if you want a seriously powerful gunline.
Or Space Marines, as they... as they are space marines. And battle brothers in the allies matrix. I still don't get that. But if you want something really interesting, definitely go guard or chaos. They have the two most interesting codexes.

By bolter and honour, by blood and fire, we shall cleanse this galaxy. By Vulkan, and by the Emperor, CHARGE!
Yo Dawgs, I heard you like grimdark, so I put grimdark in yo grimdark in yo grimdark in yo universe that is obviously grimdark.

I feel like they are going to explain that in the new SM codex because we all know there is going to be one...
Anyway, I second Guard. If you want to play a almost ridiculously stupidly powerful gun-line (of which both armies can make) then mix the two and you become almost unstoppable if you play the game right.
Plus, I always loved the idea of Battlesuits flying among Leman Russ tanks and dwarfing the lowly Guardsman. It brings a cool image to my mind haha

Actually the designers said they made Tau and SM battle-brothers because they thought it would be cool game wise, there was no fluff reasoning behind it.
