Hi guys,

After having quit warhammer for a while I wanted to create a new army again. At home I have the 2007 CSM codex, but I was wondering if this one is still viable for 6th edition, since I saw a new codex and this one is not being sold anymore.

Cheers!

That codex is now outdated and you should be using the newest codex. You might find someone willing to play you using an army built using it, but the old FAQ isn't on the GW site anymore, so there are some issues between it and 6th edition that won't work.

I out with in both 40k and WHFB.

If your opponent doesn't mind use whatever codex you like.
Any competition or tournament, then no.

Thats.. Weird. So if I want to play up to date I have to buy the €80 codex?

As with any new army book, if you want the new rules you have to buy the book.

Yes, it's how they stay in business.
Over in my country a Bank Note printing company developed Note that couldn't be torn, and wouldn't fade.
They went bankrupt (ironic, no?) as there was never any repeat orders for their Notes, because they never needed replacing.

It's no weirder than having an old multiplayer video game. If you can find opponents willing to play it, then great. But you'll have a much easier time finding opponents playing with the most recent version.

For what it's worth, though, the new codex is (for the most part) significantly better than the old codex. More competitive builds, more interesting, more fun. It's not like you're spending €80 for the same book in hardback.

If your car runs out of gas is it odd you need to refill it?
If you need new tires, is it odd you need to buy new?
When your shoes wear out and you need new ones, again weird?

It's not weird, it's business.
