I'm building a new game table that I'm trying to make look as realistic as possible. I'd like to do some large areas in static grass and I'm wondering how practical it is to play on, and will it hold up well?
Does anybody have any experience with making or playing on such a table?

Depends on who is playing on it.

I use it on my boards at home - and in fairly large quantities - and it hasn't been a problem so far. However, I have also donated a couple of pieces of terrain for store use that had small amounts of static grass on the edges of structures that have gone bald in relatively short periods of time.

The big thing is making sure it is adhered well to the base. The grass is fairly springy and bounces back if you set things on top of it like a vehicle or figure. However, when you move your stuff around - lift, move, set down. No skidding it about as some people like to do.

Personally I can’t stand static grass on boards, as my local GW had done it to there board. In the end there is always loose static grass on a lot of my models, my hands and possibly my lungs. Small patches I think would be fine but make sure they are thoroughly secured
