Well, it's fair to say I've been hooked back into the hobby once more, and with my marine chapter well under way, I've been thinking about an opponent or two for them. I'll be getting a tyranid force together in the future, (and aim to try out some 'speedpaint' techniques with them). I will also be choosing a fourth faction to build. (Always good to have options!). My thinking is that if I have four 'house' armies, friends can just come round for a beer and a game with no hassles of dragging their armies round. It also means that all the armies will be fully painted and based to match the gameboard. Enough about that though, cos this new plog is concerned with my next army - Eldar.

I've always been a big fan of the Eldar - more elite than most, with some great units (and some not so great!), and some juicy fluff to match. My biggest bugbear with Eldar, is that they rarely look like a cohesive force, with units being wildly different colour schemes etc. I like my armies to share an aesthetic and a colour scheme, so I've been working up some fluff, and thinking about how I'm going to paint them. Don't get me wrong_- part of the cool thing about Eldar forces is how colourful they are, but I want to try and keep the colourful essence while tying them together. I've bought a few tester guardians, but before I got the paint out, had a play with an 'Eldar Painter'. Below is a rough idea of how Craftworld Melodiac is going to look:

I figure that clean white armour plating will give them a cohesive 'stormtrooper' look, and give some 'pop' by colouring the undersuit to match their particular aspect. The army will hopefully keep that Eldar multicoloured party of death look. I appreciate that all the images are guardians, but hopefully you get the idea.

I'm also a big fan of fluff, and the fluff for all four of my 40k armies will be interlinked. This particular Eldar craftworld will occupy a nearby volume of space to my Marine chapter's asteroid-fortress, so there will be many campaigns fought between them. Still working that side of things up a bit though.

Anyway, I'd be interested in opinions or ideas on my 'stormtrooper' look. Is it too cohesive for Eldar? Do you think it'll look terrible, or have an idea which might help make it even more cohesive?
Personally I think it has the potential to look quite striking, but there's usually good advice to be had on Dakka.
