Not the pill popping kind
I was thinking of getting a Samsung tablet, on the same note I was thinking of custom building one.
Looking for ones that perform well at browsing streaming videos has a nice display and has a good processor.
I'm thinking of "adapting" it at sometime, so the ability to do some coding on it would be nice.
Any ideas guys?

Where on earth were you planning on custom building a tablet from?
What do you know about programming already? What languages are you familiar with?

I can edit LUA 5.1 (Sort of I understand the functions of a basic script) basic in Java and C++ very basic, did it years ago. I'm planning on getting some tutorage soon so I would like that option later on.
Like you can build your own laptop and computer you can do the same with a tablet. I know a computer guy that builds tablets and computers/laptops he would be able to help.

Well, okay, the reason why I ask is because Android is basically Java, and the iDevices are Objective-C. Your iDevices also require a $100/year developer license for the luxury of being able to write code for them. The SDK is free for Android, but it's a gakky kludge that integrates with Eclipse. If development is a primary focus, these are things to keep in mind. Personally, I'll always go with Android, as it's a much more open platform, but to each their own.
As far as suggestions go, I got a cheap Acer Iconia A200 for about $200 six or seven months ago. I'm digging it, though they're coming out with shinier and shinier ones all the time. The two nicest I've seen in person most recently are the Nexus 7, and the Lenovo one. If you want a larger screen, I'd either get the Lenovo (it's 9 inches) or wait until the Nexus 10 becomes available. I do not think I would build my own at this point. One of the most powerful things about building a desktop is the ability to have a massive selection of available hardware. There's no way tablets are to that point yet. I've not heard of much in the way of a modular part market for them.

I'm a techy geek who works in IT field.
I just bought my Kindle FIre HD... and it's quite impressive for what I want to do with it. That is, causal browsing, reading, and stream movies.

I was always planning to go Android.
Thanks for the tips, the Nexus 10 looks great. I'd be waiting for a bit since I don't have the cash to spend, but after christmas I might.
The plan is semi-long term, so things currently in the pipework are good suggestions
Thanks for the help daedalus.

I would not recommend a Kinde Fire. Maybe their new HD one is better, but I have the original kind and I'm not fond of it really at all. It's slow, the browser crashes all the time and you can't really install any android apps not in Amazon's own app store without hacks and workarounds that don't work well around anything. Get a standard android tablet if you really want android, or get an iPad.

The new HD one is eons better...
But it all depends on what you want to use it for... I bought it primarily to replace my original kindle for ebooks.
If you want to do other stuff, I'd go with the nexus.

What about the Sony tablet? I've heard that's quite good.
