Hello everyone,
I'm working on a conversion at the moment and need some CLEAR plastic crystal formations.
I need them to be similar / the same as the clear green crystals in the new basing kit.. but they need to be clear, see-through crystals (there are going to be LED's behind them).
My main question is... does anyone know where the hell I can get them? I live in the UK, so I'd rather get them from over here. I've tried wording a google search around 100 different ways to no avail, and Games Workshop refused to make them for me.
My only other idea would be to make moulds of the green ones in the basing kit, and get some clear resin and make my own.
Thanks very much advance.

I haven't seen those in person...are they a cluster or individual points? Points are pretty easy to find - most craft stores should have them in stock. Clusters are a bit more difficult to come by though. The real quartz clusters are cheap enough and easy to find - so there isn't much demand for them in plastic.

If you need them in green and have access to spur that the green templates come from you could cut and polish your own.

Desubot, I need them to be clear, not green.
Sean_OBrien, Quartz is harder to work with though. I need to be able to shape them to fit around a 1.4mm LED bulb.. and for the light to shine through.

Okay, there is a Citadel basing kit called Northern Waste. It comes with snow and a pack of ground icicles (I guess Chaos makes water drip up in WHFB). If those are too smooth and cylindrical, you MAY be able to take a hobby knife to them to carve them into jagged crystals, but I'm not sure because I don't know what material they're made of.
Alternatively, I know clear white sprues exist, so do what people do for green crystals and carve them out of transparent white sprue. People sell empty clear green sprues on eBay, but I don't know if you'll be able to find the white ones. I think I've seen some third party flying bases come on clear sprues, and the universal white templates may come on a sprue but I'm not certain.

That was the best my search foo could find
Other options however would be to buy clear acrylic rods of your choice and cut and polish them to get the effect you want.

try and arts and craft site or two...I found one that had fake ice crystals (plastic) a long time ago, and they worked great.
Also look for "clear acrylic ice stones" they are sometimes sold with floral stuff.
best of luck.

You could also try making molds.
I made some crystals years ago by first making them out of plasticine clay, then coating them with wood glue (to get rid of any porous surface). Then I created a box out of legos, and put the prototype in and poured latex rubber over it. When it dried, I flipped the rubber over, pulled the prototype out, and poured crystal resin in the empty hole. It took a few days to cure.
To get the LED inside, and a decent depth to make the light shine from the center of the crystal, you can always try some clear tubing that they use for aquariums. To diffuse the light, you can take a file to the tubing and rough it up a little.

I would just cast the LED inside the resin.
Pour half the resin into the mould, allow to cure untill tacky. Pod the LED in, support it with some wooden dowel, then pour the rest of the crystal, leaving the legs sticking out.
Job done.

if you have necron warriors they still come with those clear plastic glow rods.. the sprues from that can be used to create crystals
