For a story that I'm working on in German, I needed to make reference to one character trolling another. At the time I was working on part of it, I couldn't look up the word "troll." I entered "getrollt" and saw that it was correct after I looked it up. Maybe it was just a guess, but is there something that I wasn't aware of for why the word would be getrollt and not getrollen?

As a discussion grows in length, the probability of a comparison to Matt Ward or Gray Knights approaches one.

Presumably you've read/studied a bit of German, and you're starting to get a feel for it?

That's what I'm assuming. I'm wondering what specifically there was that shows how the world should end in the past tense.

So you need to understand that "trolled" as you would define it would not translate into German. That is an American English colloquialism. I would suggest you use a different word for someone who is verbally harassing someone.I would suggest something like pester, which if I remember correctly is base: belästigen. Let me know how that works out for you.

That is a good point, but I imagine that it must have been modified, though it is a foreign word. Whether or not I use it will depend on what word is commonly used; often time words like that go untranslated between languages. Thanks for the suggestion.

I just looked up the word, and this discussion is already in Google. Oy vey.

Out of curiosity, does the German language have a recognized arbiter of correctness like the French Academy of something or another or is more of a free for all like English?

Actually "getrollt" is an innoficial term used by teens in germany and switzerland. There are however words with the same meaning: "Verarschen" to screw someone like in "Ich verarsche dich" I screw you.
That would be the rude version, for a more polite conversation
you would use the word "täuschen" which means to deceive someone. like in "Ich täusche dich." I deceive you.

"What is the greatest illusion of life?"
"Innocence, brother, innocence."
