Im going to school for driving semi. Graduate dec 21st. Not sure if im going over the road yet or not. Theres a good chance i will because of the pay and the lack of local trucking jobs. Im not sure how ill keep this hobby if i do go over the road.

Hope theres some over the road truckers who can talk to me about this.

Figuratively speaking, I'm a 'trucker'. I actually work for a dental company, and drive a mobile dental office around the country, so I know what you're looking to go through. You can keep the hobby going, talk to friends while you're driving (a headset for your phone will be a life and sanity saver, trust me). Talk to your buddies about army lists, games you want to get in, and plan ahead for games with friends. You'd be surprised how many hours you can eat up on the road talking about the game. Bring models to paint or build when you go, so you can keep active with them on breaks-not sure if you will sleep in the area behind your drivers seat, or if you will get hotels, but I sleep at hotels all the time and bring models to work on. If you have no other distractions, you'll find you have a ton of time to get stuff painted while relaxing before bed. Hope some of that helps. Good luck, and be safe on the road. If you ever pass a white motor home style vehicle on the road with dental logos on it, honk a hello-it might be me that you pass!

You have no issues with that. Especially when your bringing in some coin.

You don't get as much time, but you learn to use your time more efficently.

Jobs are like that.


Helps save you money too, because your not having alot more "Impulse" buys, then you are focusing on what you really want.

anyway, I don't thik this should be that much of a problem for your hobby.... as timeofwaste said, you can bring some of your stuff and paint in the brakes etc....

It just means it will be harder for you to have a steady group to play with.

On the other hand, you will have access to places where you are driving.

I'm not sure how your schedule will work out but if you have a day to kill waiting for a load you can hit up any local stores in the area. Assuming you can get the timing right.

Its all a matter of doing your research.

And hey, if it doesn't work out you can always paint.

On the brightside you can take a cheesy army list and piss people off and then leave before they rebel and behead you.

And ya i never thought about that. Id have access to any store. Theres not crap by my house.

I stop at stores whenever I can/when I feel like it. If you pass through Ohio, there are amazing gamestores in Cleveland and Columbus: gamers haven and the guard tower, respectively. Found a few other good ones, but these two really stand out and shine. Zombie planet in Albany, NY is another really good one.

Highway hookers are cheap, that's a perfect way for a hook up game. Just don't forget to make some army sheets for her to not waste time.

Don't forget the gloves and duct tape.

If you keep a miniaturized box with the essentials for painting, you can do that when you down time or something.

I have a trucker in my game group.

majority of the time he is on the road 3 - 4 days a week. Doesn't travel very far (far being traveling from NY to CA.

From New York, he travels generally to PA, Ohio and Virginia. Typically on the road 12 hours a day.

Typically home on the weekends except Christmas Time or if there is an out of the blue need for a trucker for the company, which does happen, then he has to drop what he is doing.
