In the guard codex (I'm using IG as an example with no knowledge of the wording in any other codex), it says as follows; A platoon commander/ A company commander/ a Sergeant, I'll use Sergeant for the example. The Sergeant may take take melta bombs. Having bought the upgrade does this give as the codex says, multiple (for the purposes of the game, infinite) melta bombs or does it, as my friend suggests, only give the sergeant one melta bomb? The codex explicitly says bombs (plural) and I haven't found rules specific to melta bomb QUANTITY (though I have found the grenade section of course).

It gives him as many melta bombs as you can use during the game.

If they were limited, there would be something specifically saying so, such as the Demolition Charges 'One Use Only.'

Thanks, I was only asking, because a friend said that you only got one, I think the confusion came, because with Space Marines (the codex he must have been reading) squads, it says the the squad gets melta bombs.

Anyway, I know it's only a guardsman and the likely hood of him needing to use the melta bomb more than once is not necessarily nil, but come on, guardsmen that survive?

Thanks for clearing up the rule I just wanted a second (and indeed third) opinion, thanks.

Which SM codex is he using? The vanilla Space Marines codex has no option to give an entire squad melta bombs; the closest you get is each Vanguard Veteran in a Vanguard Vets squad being able to take melta bombs, but the wording there is roughly 'any Vanguard Veteran may take melta bombs', not 'the squad may take melta bombs'.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Oh well, I don't know, I'm not entirely confident with what the Space marine codex says or anything else like that, I think though that the rule has been sufficiently or at least to my satisfaction, been clarified.

Actually it says "Any model may take melta bombs" for the vanguard vet squad, so you can have a full squad with melta bombs.

I never said you couldn't have a full squad with melta bombs, I said that nowhere is there an option that says something along the lines of "the squad may take melta bombs" or an option to give an entire squad melta bombs (which is different from any model in a squad being allowed to take them); the wording for the Vanguard Vets is different enough for it not to easily be replaced with "the entire squad may take melta bombs", and so I was making sure that he wasn't being cheated by facing entire Tactical Squads of melta bombs.

I have been talking to my "friend" and apparently he THOUGHT that it might be the case. HAHA!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Oh no, it was just the fact that there might have been a confusion with the amount of bombs each guy got when given the upgrade.

No, but you said "'any Vanguard Veteran may take melta bombs'" which I was correcting, since it does not say that.

I did say the wording was 'rough' and not exact.

In any case, the OP understood what I said, so I really don't care either way about the wording..

Maybe he was confused by the fact that, when you use a melta bomb, you only get 1 attack.

Probably not. Someone in our playing group thought you only got one, which was further confused by the actual melta bomb bit. We cleared him up.

Oh cool, does that mean a seargent on the charge gets 3 melta bomb attacks?! If so, would that be for MC's or vehicles or both?
