The models are interesting, but I've noticed they are 'irregular' which I understand only allows them to generate a single order for themselves?
So what is the value of taking such units and has anyone used them effectively?

The order they generate can be only used by them, but they can use orders of other regular models if you so desire.
Usually, the Irregular models are a little cheaper than the regular ones if they give the same option, present the same tactical possibility (ie. in Haqqislam, which I play, I got Daylami and Ghulam as regular cheerleader troops - Daylami are a couple points cheaper, but irregular. ).
That said, I don't know a lot about Nomads, so maybe someone else can provide some more info on that.

Morlocks are great and Alkasyn described how irregualr worked correctl.
Just as their fluff suggests, they are a throw away unit. When you bring them, it's under the expectation that they will die. However their death shall be a glorious one!
Use order their impetuous order, irregular order, and a few orders out of the pool turn one to "chain smoke" up the field getting in the enemy backfield. When you hit everything you can with your chainrifle and die, you shrug and say out loud "totally worth 7pts" lol.
The other great thing they are for is using their smoke in combo with Intruders.

Yeah I've been thinking about the tactics of having a chain rifle and smoke unit for 7 points. So they can effectively do a double move from impetuous and then take another order (self generated) to continue with actions right? Don't think I'll be using them in 150 pt games but I got hold of the two older Morlock models (love the new ones as well though!) and would love to slip in a little bash 'em up gang to go on the offence whilst my Bakunin lock down the area with sneaky defence.
*EDIT: Just realised my Dakka rank is 'Ultraviolent Morlock' at the time of writing this... lol.

Must mean you need to get them then! lol
I'm in the same boat with Shaolin Monks. It kind of sucks though that hardly anyone takes anything other than the Chain Rifle. Monks have horrible BS so I wouldn't bother with anything but that. They have great options of CC weapons but then who really gets into CC to use them that is not a Camo'd Infiltrator or something?

I typically use the Chain Rifle/Assault pistol 10pts morlock. If they get in range the assault pistol is devistating while also keeping them alive. However if there is a bunch of enemies, just flak the crown and laugh evily. I've played a 100pt match with nothing but morlocks before. While not terribly effective, it was rather hilarious. The list was dubbed "From Bakunin with Love"

In campaign missions I've grown very attached to the Morlock with Combi Rifle and Light Smoke Grenade Launcher, a great option for blocking off LoF when you want your other models to advance safely.
The downside is 1 SWC. :(

Eh, for only 8 more points and 0 SWC I'd take Ubers for that role with Zero Vis grenades.

Chimeras can't place smoke templates out to 16" at +3BS.
Also, zero-vis smoke doesn't combine very well with the Intruders.
That said, I sometimes like to run a Chimera as well due to enemy MSVs.

Some interesting stuff coming in here guys, it's made me far less concerned about my Morlock purchase as I can definitely see some good uses for them.... smoke and punches to the throat/hot metal to the liver sounds good to me!

+5 pts and .5 SWC for a HMG moblot that can chill in the middle of nowhere with cover from all directions? Hardly useless.

I hate that guy, "Wait, what do you mean you get cover, no matter what angle I have."

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor. |

oookay, as if 36 pts and 1.5 swc is a fair price for one-wound 3ARM heavy.
