I just received a squad in the mail from Forgeworld. Aside from a snapped lightning claw, they look amazing and I'm going to be using them as the command squad for Belial. I wanted them to represent the most trusted veterans of the Deathwing assigned the most ancient relics in the armory, seeing the DA and their successors are known for having some older tech (e.g.; Sammael).

That aside, I'm trying go figure out how to base them. Most of my army (see my blog) is simple grass basing since I still getting back into the overall hobby, but I'd want to do something special for these guys. I can't see the Cataphractii just standing on a circle of grass. So... while still meshing somewhat with the rest of my army's bases... what do you thing is the best choice for basing?

Rocky? Ruined vehicle bits? A precast resin? This entire affair will be my first resin experience as well, so I'm sure it'll be interesting all the way around.

Still, can't wait to see these guys in Deathwing White trimmed with gold.

I vote that you stick to the current scheme that you have going but to place them on some cork bits that can be painted up to look like rock cliffs, that will give them some more height, keep the current grass (by putting in the cracks and surrounding areas) and give them an overall more heroic feel by placing them on a higher level than your other models. Maybe throw in some flair here and there though to make them less plain
