So my company is moving to Austin TX over the next 15 months. Does anyone know of a current hub for Warhammer Fantasy and 40k? Which game is more popular there? What is the meta like(WAAC or casual)?

Hi, the central hub for gaming in the Austin area is Drangon's Lair. Thursday nights is 40k night with a typical turnout of 30-40 people. Pickup games are easy to get and the local meta has recently shifted from hyper-competitive to friendly competitive. There are 40k tournaments the first Sunday of the month and Fantasy the 2nd Sunday. 40K ranges from 16-28 players, Fantasy turn out has been lower 6-12 lately. Wargamescon is an Austin event and is coming up in July. There is also an Apoc game the 3rd Sat of each month(DL stays open until the wee hours of the morning to accomodate us). There is also a super casual shop (Wonko's Toys) in town that has very very very laid back tournaments, format is loose, gameplay is casual, and it can be a nice change. Wonko's has their tournaments the 2nd Saturday of the month, but call before you haul. If you need any help drop me a line crazyredpraetorian @ gmail dot com

Also, you can play a variety of games at Great Hall Games and Distractions. The have open board games on Fridays and Saturdays. Historical and sci-fi gaming on Thursdays and Sundays. There is also a chess group and a Go group that each meet one day a week.
