Thanks to a few friends, had the opportunity to run Rask in two 25pt proxy ganes today at the LGS...and w o w ! I am quite impressed with this new Warlock. Played the following list againt Retribution (Rayvn) and Circle (pKrueger)...
Rask
- Swamp Horror
- Bull Snapper
Bog Trog Ambushers ( full unit )
Gatormen Posse ( full unit )
Gatorman Witch Doctor
First game against Ret, the Bogs were used as a supporting meat-shield for Rask (Admonition). Gatormen Posse (zombified) and buffed with Fury lead the forward advance, while the Swamp Horror (Spiny Growth) found its way comfortably in the lines of a Mage Hunter Strike Force. Mid game, Rask hits Rayvn with a Paralysis shot then the Swamp Horror (Fury) moves in for the win.
Second game featured the Bog Trogs being held back to ambush, which they did nicely against a Pureblood before getting hammered by Krueger's feat. The Gatormen Posse (upkeep - Fury) were able to dismantle the Wold Warden, while the Swamp Horror (Fury - newly casted) was able to take down a Feral after Rask hit it with a Paralysis shot. Krueger (Skyborne) goes on the offensive and declares a charge against Rask, but gets sent to the grave by a free strike from the Swamp Horror. But even if he had slipped through, Rask would have stepped aside via Admonition and taken the game to another turn.
In all, and as mentioned earlier, I am quite impressed with the model's playability...and yes, I know its only been two games. His ranged weapon can be quite situational with Disruption and Siphon but the Paralyze is pure gold for setting up strikes against key targets = hitting DEF17 on average with a boost :-) The Fury spell is simply sweet when used as a first wave / second wave tool, where one recipient can use it first through upkeep then pass it on to another. The Bogs bring up another issue all together = in both games they had a role, and performed each well...but I can easily see spending points (potential point sink) to field two units: for now looking at a full unit as an offensive tool and a min unit to guard Rask.
Well, that's it for now...thanks Joel & Tre for the games, and thanks PP for this addition to Minions :-)
