Not sure if I am reading the rules right but from what I understand they can right? Thinking of buying some barges (2 more) which would give me 2 extra overlords. Was thinking instead of going out to buy lords if I understood correctly I can just use the overlords edit: to join my main H.Q's royal court?

Technically, no, you can not take an overlord as a part of another overlord's royal court. However, you can use the Overlord models as lords as long as you have some way of clearly identifying the difference between the lord and the overlord.

I find it quite handy to paint the rim of the bases with varying patterns / colors to distinguish things like this. The actual lord could be your (tombs?) color/s while the subordinates were the same base color but with an added stripe pattern.

on the forum. Obviously

You can use the overlord model as stand-in for a lord.
You may not however, have an overlord, rules and all, in a royal court.

You may only ever have 2 Overlords in the game at any given time. They are HQs, while Lords are Royal Court dudes. Now, what you could do is have the other overlord join the first Overlord's unit, so 2 OLs + RC, but that's putting too many eggs in one expensive basket, so don't do that, unless you want to Deathstar. Royal Courts are best broken up, anyway.

Wrong, actually. You can have up to 4 overlords with the second detachment.

That's not the point.

How is that not the point? He said "You may only ever have 2 Overlords in the game at any given time." That is incorrect, as the sixth edition rules allows you to take 4 overlords for games that are 2000 points and over.
Now, what you cannot do is have an overlord as a member of a royal court.

It is correct if the game is 1999 or less. I have yet to play a game that allowed the second FOC. (1999+1 ruling and stuff) and seeing a lot of tourneys capping out at 1850 now, I think the rule of thumb will be 2 max since the only time you would see 4 is at a home game.

A royal court can contain lords. There's nothing stopping you from using the overlord model as a lord.

Alternatively you can build lords out of the lychguard/preatorians set

Not as far as I know but you could run two royal courts.

kit bash em! Generally, if you have a box of lychguard/preats, you should extra heads and stuff lying around. Or just check ebay for bits deal. I would try and cut the robes short (or paint a different color), same thing with the loin cloth part. A Preat head on the overlord body would top it off nicely. Also, the lychguard have different warscythe blades than the overlords, so if you could swap those in, that would make it look even better.

I like this! I really want to run a big lychguard /Pretorian based army. So I hope I will have some extra bits for the kit bashing!

Fair enough. I myself generally see 2 FOC, so I guess it's a meta thing.
