I've not played since they redid the army list composition, so need a question or two answered (and now with this hobbit thing coming out, buying a rulebook will have to wait a bit)
whats the size of these warbands, does it differ for each army
I play hobbits so... there's a lot of them, is there still a number restriction?

^ pretty much summed it up.
it's also worth noting a couple extra things:
- you can't have a hero from one army lead a warband of another (for instance, Theoden can't lead a load of Warriors of Minas Tirith).
- a warband doesn't have to be 12 men, but that's the maximum.
- cavalry still counts as one model, it's just most people only tend to run 6 or so.
- a hero can be included in the 12 men per warband, just so long as that warband is led by another hero (say, Gimli can be with 11 dwarves in a warband that's led by Dain)

This isn't exactly correct. Only specific heros may be included in warbands led by another hero. The twin elves, grima and saruman, dwarf champion and the heralds, murin and drar, are all valid examples of this. But you cannot simply put another hero in an already led warband. Also there are some heros that cannot be in any warband, and choose to act as solo models for deployment. These include Dunedian, rangers of the north, and a few others.

ah, thanks for clearing that up- the only heroes I field which aren't leading their own warband is Elrohir (in a warband led by Elladan), so I wouldn't have gotten picked up on it
