I finally got around to reading The Sabbat Worlds Crusade this weekend. And while I enjoy the BL novels for what they are, The Sabbat Worlds Crusade book is nice with the addition not only of FW-style photoshopped photos of armor and aircraft in action and maps from some of the BL novels, but also the use of old sepia photo portraits of military men that had been photoshopped to add cybernetics to show some of the different generals in the war.

I was particularly amused, though, as I got to looking at a map on page 54. It looked way too detailed to be something that BL just threw together for a book like this. And frankly, that coastline nagged at me. It was something familiar to me. I pulled up a map of the Los Angeles coastline and found that this BL map showing a coastline with two islands off the coast was actually a map of the Los Angeles/Long Beach area with Catalina and San Clemente Islands to the south of it.

Has anyone else noticed this? Or is familiar with the sources for some of the other aged documents in this or other BL books that have been modified for use in the 40k universe?

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

Back in the UK and hating it

Well spotted!

GW/FW have a history of doing this but it's a good game to play to spotted where they took their stuff from.

It would seem in 40k the coast was moved to another planet

I like the thought that Los Angeles was the site of a major battle against the forces of Chaos.
