Hello community, I'm just getting back into tyranids after a few year break and playing some other armies. So I picked up a box of gargoyles and they look like a ton of fun to paint only problem is I have never painted a wing like a gargoyles. So I was wondering about color choice and technique on painting these style of wings. I use a red "skin" tone with black carapace and claws so I was thinking of a red/pinkish or maby a black webbing. If anyone has a good tutorial for these style of wings a link would be much appreciated. I'll try to attack some pics of my models for a color scheme reference.

I sadly do not have any tutorials on how to do those wings, but i still can explain how I did mine

I did the leathery part a darkest-neutral shade( GW Shadow Grey) than my carapace (which is bright blue;GW enchanted Blue) on a bleached bone(washed with greyphone sepia) skin.
I Then washed it with the Gw blue wash.

That's all

You can do some highlights where the wing's leather is at it's highest.

I do think that gargoyles wings are tiny enough to look good even with only this level of details. For bigger wings, as HT wings or Harpy's, ill do some highlights and some veiny stuff on them

I'll post a pic of one of my gargoyles when i'll get home to show you which kind of effect this method do. It's easy, fast and does quite well for wings of this scale

I'll try to post you the Gw paint name i think would go nicely with your scheme if you want to try it !

Oh and Happy to meet a new Nids lover

Ohhh it took me a while to find that picture, it was in a messy folder in the dust of my computer

But anyway, it's been 4 yrs i've done this one, so please be constructive, one of my first, but it will still get you an idea of the result

Have you found something of your liking meanwhile, if so, please post

For my gargoyles, I used a darker blue on them compared to what I used on the carapaces. A lighter blue would have worked as well, I just chose darker.

It was admittedly very time consuming, as you can see, I painted it in streaks, but I think it worth the effort. The membrane looks a bit darker in reality, the camera doesn't capture the difference in colour range between the carapace and the wing membrane very well.

I think it'd look good if you did something similar with a darker or lighter purple compared to what you used on the carapace.
