Hey everyone, I've been reading alot of the posts about power weapons and alot of the statements have been confusing, so I was hoping some of you rules gurus could help me (and others) out:

1. My imperial guard codex mentions "power weapons" and does not yet distinguish between axe's, swords, maul's etc.. most of my models have powerswords, because it seem that is the only available model option without modifying.
2. I've seen people mentioning that they fitted their comissars and sergeants with power axes and mauls, is this allowed?
3. I've seen some people mention that they give their assault squad sergeant 2 plasma pistols? Is this allowed and does this give 1 additional attack in cc?
4. I've also seen people mention equipping a character with 2 power axe's, is this allowed and what effect does this have?

Thanks in advance for anyone that can shed some light, so far the people on this forum have been very helpfull, thanks for that!

1) the codex does not distinguish between types of power weapons, as explained in the main rule book all power weapons (sword, axe, maul and lance) are priced the same, and you look at the model to work out which type it is. So you can convert your model to represent any of these 4 for the same price (points-wise)

2) Yes. As long as it is represented on the model or your opponent is happy for you to 'proxy' it.

3) Without a codex handy I'm not sure on buying 2, but you can use 2 pistols and fire both in the shooting phase (Gunslinger rule), with both still being ccw's (due to being pistols) for the additional attack in assault.

4) Again, without a codex not sure on buying options, but there is nothing in the rule book to prevent you.
I can't see much benefit of 2 axes over 1 axe and a pistol (same number of attacks etc) but giving them 2 different power weapons would give you the option of which to use in combat (say, an axe and a maul) with the other still giving the +1 Attack.

Wasn't this already answered in your other thread about CCWs and pistols?

1. Buy the BRB. It will explain the differences between the power weapons
2. Buy the codex. It will tell you how you may equip your comissars and sergeants.
3. Consult the codex again. Can a sergeant replace his close combat weapon with a plasma pistol?
4. What models may have two power weapons? don't know. What army are you looking at?

I have both the BRB and the codex for Space Marines, Imperial Guard, Chaos Space Marines, Chaos Daemons. And yes I have read them, and yes I know a fair deal about the rules even though I've only had the chance to play about 5 or 6 games. As I clearly stated I read several forum posts and some of the things were confusing me and I was hoping for some clarification.

Imperial Guard Codex Options for a sergeant and commissar:

"the sergeant and/or commissar may exchange his pistol and/or close-combat weapon for:
- power weapon or plasma pistol "

So yes that would lead me to believe (and I am no native english speaker) that yes you could fit a sergeant out with 2 plasmapistols? Which is something I rarely see, so I assumed I might be wrong in my understanding. I thought that was how this forum worked. Im in doubt about the rules and there are other people that might be able to shed light on it. I hope you understand your reply comes across rather... blunt. "buy the book". I never said anywhere that I did not own the books or even remotely imply that I didn't read them.

Yes, as per what you wrote there you could indeed outfit them with 2 plasma pistols.

It is something you would rarely if never see in the 5th edition since you could only have fired with a single pistol, but the gunslinger rule in 6th means every character with 2 pistols can shoot them both. Add to that precision strikes and 2 plasma pistols are not that bad of an idea, if a little dangerous on models with a 5+ armor save.

I think what people are reacting to is that everything you've asked is answerable in the rulebook. Maybe saying you're not a native English speaker straight out would have helped here.

Many imperial guard characters can take 2 plasma pistols, yes they can fire both in the shooting phase and yes it does grant them a bonus attack in close combat. The reason not very many people do this is that it is 30 points for 2 short range shots that have a good chance of killing the character who holds them.
