Ok, I am doing something different here. I am not sure if you are going to like it or not. I decided to do a battle report narrative style. Took me a few hours to write this one, so a bit longer than a normal battle report. Let me know what you think about it.

If you are not interesting in reading a saga then read a few lines below who won. The end of the tale does give a false illusion to who won to be honest.

The game was kill points with dawn of war deployment. In the end Daemons scored 16 kill points along with slay the warlord and linebreaker giving them a total of 18 points. Grey Knights scored 14 kill points plus first blood giving them a total of 15 kill points.

Surviving units for Daemons was a hidden unit if depleted Plaguebearers and Eyeball Paul. Grey Knights had a Dreadnought and two depleted Purifier units left.

 Here's the tale:

Castellan Crowe knelt in the dusty ruins of a former shrine of the aqulia. His red cloak flowed down his back with its end lightly dusted from the rubble of the ruin. With his head slightly bowed and his sword held by both hands at the grip, pointing down to the floor, he whispered the rites of battle. He knew soon the legions of chaos would be upon him. Just above his whispers he could hear the blade of antyr scream in anger, the daemonic possessed weapon blasted Crowe with foul words and curses for it could not stand to be within this half destroyed crumbling shrine dedicated to the Emperor of Mankind. As ever, Crowe ignored the daemonic entity within. The Daemon bound by the sword held no power over Crowe and it was his bound duty to safe guard the sword against anyone who could be tempted by its whispers.

Castellan Crowe had brought his Purifier order to support his Grey Knight battle brothers on the world of Tarvin Ultra. The planet had once been a frontier for the Imperium, however forces of the Dark Kin frequented the jungle planet for its source of poison and toxins. The Mechancius of the Imperium settlement had discovered a great warp gate buried in the over grown jungles, luckily for them they realised it’s power before activating it. On one fateful night the Dark Kin returned to Tarvin Ultra for supplies, upon finding the newly constructed Imperial settlement they unleashed hell and massacred the settlers. It’s not sure how exactly, but it is believed in some sort of saviour or desperate need the warp gate was opened and the daemonic forces poured out. The Daemons however were the ultimate destruction of the settlement while the Dark Eldar forces retreated back to the dark city.

Daemons are now in control of Tarvin Ultra; they invest its ruined buildings and swarm the vast jungle canopy. Fortunately the loss of human life was a minimum, though the planet itself offers vast resources and must be reclaimed to the Imperium fold. Grey Knight forces launched an attack on the planet several weeks after daemonic invasion and battle has ground to a stalemate. The location of the warp gate is unknown; it must be seeked out, as Chaos Daemons will continually pour through it until it is destroyed.

It was a fresh morning on Tarvin Ultra when Crowe recited the rites of battle. The daemonic legions soon changed that as the sky turned a dark sour purple and forks of blue lightning raced across it. The host of Chaos approached.

With a violent cracking sound reality burst open like stitch giving way and legions of Plaguebearers appeared; these vile creatures stood as high as a Space Marine, their bodies were fat and bloated and covered in dark green waxy like skin along with yellow boils while their skin oozed pus. In areas their decayed flesh had given way and daemonic bone, muscle and internals flashed against the purple sky. Where these monsters trod the very earth became corrupted and burst with filth.

Along with the vile Plaguebearers three hulking cyber Daemons appeared, a trio of Daemons fused to daemon engines once used by the traitor legions. Crowe had seen these machines before, known as Soul Grinders to the forces of the Imperium. These particular Soul Grinders were from the Host of Rot, a number of daemon machines in service to Nurgle himself.

One Soul Grinder had it’s left arm replaced by a giant pincer claw while clutched in its right hand was a massive jagged rusting blade. Its waxy skinned daemonic torso sat upon the machine body, which was carried by six piston driven crab like legs. The decaying waxy skin extended over the machinery with boils and pus spewing from the skin. A top of its head were two large horns, though one had broken off, probably in a previous engagement.

Another daemon machine had two giant pincer arms, the right one with some rudimentary anti infantry fire arm mounted on it. Upon its back sat two tanks merged into its body. Various pipes ran from these barrels and embedded into the Soul Grinder’s flesh. Nurglings sat upon its frame while several poked out from gapping holes on its stomach and chest.

The Soul Grinder furthest away was the biggest of the three. Unlike the other two it walked on four crab piston driven legs and had two giant pincer claws reaching out the front. Its right arm had been replaced by some giant rusting cannon while a third pincer claw was in place of its right arm. Some kind of fuel barrels were attached to its back with pipes running from them which were then embedded into the Daemon’s flesh. Unlike the other Soul Grinder’s, this beast had popping insect red eyes and large drooping decaying breasts which sat upon another barrel poking out the Daemon’s fat decaying belly.

As quick as the mechanical beasts appeared they spewed acidic bile on the shining Rhino war machines of the Grey Knights. One Rhino lost a storm bolter, the acidic slime melting it away and scarring the front armour. Another blast of bile hit a unit of Servitors who were positioned in the roof of the wrecked shrine. The great Inquisitor Coteaz commanded the Servitors, though the acid bile had fractured the buildings roof structure and Coteaz plummet to the floor with a hard cold thud.

The Inquisitor was severely injured and was unconscious. Crowe looked up through the damaged rafters and saw two Servitors remaining; one had been reduced to a pile of melting goo flesh. Without Coteaz to command them, their simple minds could not handle the situation and they stood mindlocked instead of returning fire. Inquisitor Coteaz was now unable to participate in the battle and no battle brothers were close by aid Coteaz. Crowe contacted the strike cruiser in orbit and in a flash Coteaz was teleported to safety.

Far from Crowe’s view and deeper into the ruined settlement a trio of venerable brother Dreadnoughts halted their advance. Their walking tank frames were supported by two Rhinos carrying squads Alatino and Farosa. In a flash the Daemonic forces were upon them, a hideous creature representing the forces of Slaanesh appeared before them. Its un-natural large frame was a dark grey tone ripped with muscles. The monstrosity wielded two pairs of arms, two looking like some sea creature’s while dozens of boned spikes protruded from its back. Alation, the Knight of Flame of his squad has encountered this Daemon before; it was known as the Daemon of Thorns. This creature was a herald of Slaanesh, it paved the path of the Dark Prince’s armies and must be stopped before it can establish a foot hold in reality and unleash Slaanesh’s forces.

The Daemon of Thorns sprouted three golden glowing chains from its hands, the chains flew through the air as if they had a life of their own. Brother Vauldmin’s Dreadnought form was hit and spun around on its axis, luckily the other two Dreadnought’s quickly moved to avoid the sentient golden chains.

In a dark flash a Herald of Tzeentch appeared in a ruin ahead. Its monstrous form was a bright blue with contrasting pink spikes rising from its back. The mutant creature had brightly coloured feathers blooming from its body which burnt the retinas while a bird like beak was in place for a normal mouth. The creature’s eye glowed red and forks of red lightning blasted from its eyes and hit the rear of Dreadnought Vauldmin. The Daemon was powerless against Vauldmin’s venerable form. The Herald sought more power and hurled a bright blue bolt of power which lit up everything it zoomed over. The bolt of power smashed into the rear of the Dreadnought and begun to work it’s magic corrupting and mutating the Dreadnought’s body, though the shell of the Dreadnought was blessed and as quickly as the mutations started they ended.

The force of Purifiers did not stand idly by. The host of Plaguebearers come under fire from psycannons, the light hum of the psychic weapons filled the battlefield as psychic ammo blasted decaying foul Daemons back to the warp.

Brother Vauldmin pivoted on his access and sought revenge on the Herald of Tzeentch, his brother Dreadnoughts supported him and unleashed hell with their fury of autocannons. The walls of the ruin were blasted to bits as was the Herald, it’s form began to rip and shred as it lost it’s hold on reality and burst into a cloud of smoke matching its skin colour before dissipating altogether.

The Daemon of Thorns was typically quick for a creature of Slaanesh. It climbed onto the roof of the closest Rhino; the vehicle was manned by squad Farosa. Brothers Tinaz and Halpero unleashed psycannons into the monster, yet it came for them with claw like pincers snapping away anxiously.

Brother Tinaz jammed the barrel of the psycannon into the creature’s gaping hungry mouth.

“You like pain? Then eat this!” Brother Tinza’s psycannon roared and blew the skull of the Daemon to pieces. Its tattered head form fell from the Rhino as its body shredded up and turned to smoke.

More and more Daemonic forces appeared to bolster their Daemonic allies. Weird creatures known as Screamers and Flamers appeared; Screamers had the appearance of sea creatures though their bright colours of blue and pink tough hide gave away their daemonic nature. They flew high above and skimmed down over the remaining Servitors from Coteaz’s unit, their razor sharp fangs and bodies ripping the Servitors to bloody gory pieces.

Flamers are the most strange of all Daemons, their form was a true blasphemy against the Emperor. Great bouts of green warp fire blasted from their mouths and cupped hands, the extreme daemonic heat warped the hull of the already damaged Rhino, the vehicle could not stand no more punishment and the machine spirit ceased. Squad Dalany bailed from the spent Rhino unleashing storm bolters and psycannons into the Daemon horde, though their fight was futile as one of the hulking daemon machines spat a wad of acidic bile onto the Purifiers and three of the squad melted away down to the bone including Justicar Dalany.

With Daemonic forces approaching Castellan Crowe’s position it was now time for Crowe to act. Crowe bravely marched through the shrine as the blade of antwyr pleaded with Crowe to lead its power. Outside the shrine Crowe spotted his target, a mass of Flamers bellowing glowing green warp fire. Crowe raised his sword and charged the evil creatures as a hail of storm bolter and psycannon fire destroyed their numbers leaving only two for Crowe to massacre. The Flamers blasted gouts of glowing fire into Crowe; he fought through the pain as the burning warp fire made its way through his shining silver artificer armour. Crowe whirled his blade in the air and used his psychic might to cast purifying fire on the Flamers, one howled in pain as the flames of the pure burnt daemonic flesh. The Daemons made an attempt at striking Crowe, but his skills as a sportsman are unparallel and he dodged, parried or blocked their blows.

Another pack of the mutant Screamers appeared close to the trio of Dreadnoughts, the sky shark creatures flew high in the air and shrieked down slicing up Inquisitor Locke’s Servitors, two of his servants were cut to bloody chunks. Autocannons from the trio of venerable brothers blasted into the Screamers, their shots were mostly dodged by the lightning quick Screamer monsters.

As the Soul Grinders approached, hails of psycannons pattered of their rusting corrupted armour hulls. The machine carrying the giant sword exploded into a giant fire ball spraying a shower of rusting metal and waxy flesh while the other two daemon machines followed suit; shrapnel of rotting metal slicing through flanking decaying Plaguebearers.

The Daemonic counter attack is growing in strength and power, another Herald of Tzeentch appears on the wrecked hull of the Rhino belong to squad Dalany. Its beastly form made up of leering multiple faces which mocked those close by. Blue lightning arced from its eyes slaughtering the remaining two members of squad Dalany, the lightning blasting red holes through their power armour cindering purity seals attached and melting any heraldry worked into the armour. A bolt of power blasted from the Herald’s hand, it smashed into the hull of a Rhino, though the blessed hull is strong and repelled the daemonic attack.

A congregation of Flamers appeared with a blinding light along an evil sounding crack of broken reality. Great bales of green flame incinerated the silver coloured Rhino belonging to squad Liarno, the power of the warp creatures was too strong for the mighty war machine and its hull sagged and melted while the Purifiers inside kicked open the melting side door and returned fire into the warp menaces. Storm bolter thundered into daemon flesh while psycannons blown Flamers to chunks. As quickly as the evil beasts had appeared they had been banished back to the warp.

Screamers skimmed through the shrine ruin smashing the already fragile structure to pieces, the building creaked and groaned as it struggled to stay up right. Their daemonic hides slamming into two Rhinos as their powerful warp jaws chewed through the armoured ceramite hulls of the Rhinos; one Rhino explodes in a hail of adamantium and ceramite while the machine spirit of another surrenders to death.

With their armoured steeds destroyed by Screamers, squads Yalano and Elzkile unleash a hail of counter fire into the mockery formed Screamers. The Daemons screech in pain as their daemonic forms are blasted into chunks of goo.

A mob of filthy Plaguebearers marched up and assaulted Crowe, their daemonic rage fuelled by the blade of antwyr. Once again the mighty Castellan musters his psychic might and unleashed a curling fire which incinerated Flamer and Plaguebearer alike. As quick as lightning Crowe slashed at the vile monsters with the blade of antwyr, the daemonic runes glowing a fiery orange on the blade contrasting against its dark sickly purple colour. Though the blade had given much power to the Plaguebearers, their rusty diseased weapons found melted holes in Crowe’s artificer armour and Crowe found himself in a heap on the floor as the plagues of Nurgle began to take over his body. As Crowe lay in agonising pain the blade of antwyr at first begged Crowe to accept its offer of power and then as quickly mocked his pending demise.

The Plaguebearers rage soon subsided and they moved onto fresh prey while cursing and mocking the injured Crowe while throwing fresh excrement at his broken body.

With a flash of blinding light a further horde of Flamers appeared close to the trio of venerable Dreadnoughts. Along with them appeared the leader of the Daemonic forces, a powerful Herald of Tzeentch known as the Ever Seeing. Its pink monstrous form was covered in various size eyeballs; in place of the creature’s head was a giant eye. It is said that the creature can see the past and present but can never see the current. The daemonic monster was an insult to the Emperor of Mankind.

The newly arrived Flamers scorched the earth were they floated above the ground, blasts of green fire roared from their orifices and incinerated the trio of Dreadnoughts and supporting Rhinos, their warp power was too strong for the Dreadnoughts and two of the mighty battle brothers were reduced to a melting slag heap of metal.

As quickly as the Flamers had appeared and launched their assault, Screamers darted down from the sky and chewed up the Rhinos belonging to squads Alantino and Farosa. The Rhino belonging to Alantino detonated in a fire ball of orange killing one of the noble Purifiers.

The Knights of Flame Alantino and Farosa issued orders to their squads, Farosa’s unit blasted the Screamers to pieces and their essences returned to the warp in a wisp of blue tinted smoke. Alantino directed fire into the Flamers, chunks of their warp flesh detonated when storm bolter rounds smashed into their bodies, yet their numbers remained.

The Flamers fresh from their victory over Crowe leaped up onto a smoking Rhino wreck, the Flamers shouting taunts at squads Yalano and Elzkile before unleashing blasts of glowing green fire and incinerating squad Elzkile down to the last man.

Not contempt with destroying Rhinos, the Screamers quickly ushered a counter charge into squad Yalano and soon found their revenge as the Screamers devoured the pure spirits and bodies of squad Yalno in a bloody bone filled feast.

Though, the sweet bloody victory of the Screamers was cut short as the last survivng Dreadnought, brother Bullon unleashed a hail of autocannon fire into the Screamers. The blessed psybolts found their mark and destroyed the Screamers with furious vengeance.

Still roaring their victory over Castellan Crowe, the victorious Plaguebearers engaged squad Liarno in combat. Great circles of cleansing flame engulfed the Plaguebearers, but still powered from their recent victory the filthy diseased Daemons stood fast and filth encrusted blades engaged with crackling blue energy nemesis force weapons. One Plaguebearer lost its head from a swing of a nemesis daemon hammer from Justicar Liarno while brother Gallino was hacked apart by rusting blades.

Stinging from the fire assault by squad Alantino, the vengeful Flamers ignite their most powerful flame blast and reduce the squad to cinders. Only charred bone, incinerated flesh and melting power armour remain of squad Alantino. In anger for the deaths of their battle brothers, squad Farosa returns fire and the remaining Flamers are banished back to the warp with a wisp of blue tinted smoke.

Justicar Liarno unleashes a torrent of cleansing flame, though the psychic might of the Plaguebearers doubts the psychic fire in seconds. In a fury of fists and force weapons, the Plaguebearers and hacked to chunks of rotting meat and waxy flesh.

The Ever Seeing notices what lies before him and sees all his Daemonic allies in ruins. With sneer, the creature disappears into the deeper parts of the ruined settlement.

The remaining Purifiers manage to recover the injured Castellan Crowe. Using their gifted psychic powers, the Purifiers home into the warp gate and locate its where abouts. Soon the Daemonic invasion will be stopped at its heart and Tarvin Ultra will be free once again and in the clutches of the Imperium.
