So I was reading the Dark Angels FAQ, and happened on the last question:
Q: There is no Dark Angels vehicles reference section at the back of the
rulebook. Does this mean I should use the Codex: Space Marines
vehicle reference section instead (meaning my Venerable Dreadnoughts
are now Weapon Skill and Ballistic Skill 5 for example)? (appendix)
A: Yes

So does that mean that Dark Angels can take Stormtalons?

Granted in the Space Marine FAQ:
Q: Is the Stormtalon Gunship available to any armies other than those
chosen from Codex: Space Marines?
A: No.

So what should be done in this case?

If it is not in your codex, you do not get to purchase it.

The stats on the vehicles you can have may be updated in the BRB.

The reference section tells you stats about vehicles. It does not give you permission to actually take them in your army

But couldn't be argued that the list of vehicles in the BRB appendix is also a list of what an army can take? And their valid (official) statistics?

*To be clear, I agree with what your saying, I am just asking a question.

No. To do so would mean that GK's can't take Rhino's or Razorbacks, etc. and C:SM can take Stormravens.

Well then damn.

I really hope that they add that to the Dark Angels in the next codex, as it fits so well with Ravenwing.

Don't worry, they will. No sense in not selling models.

Doubtful, they sell more blueboyz by keeping C:SM

But the different SM flavors can already use a lot of the same models. Why not make them available to as many variations as possible? The same kit for several Codexes means more money and less production costs through volume. There's nothing to lose and everything to win.

Simple really, GW makes more $$ in the long run doing it this way. Storm Ravens for GK/BA, Talon for SM, DA is rumored to be getting a flyer with their new codex.

Because GW finally wants the various Marine codices to have a difference on the tabletop other than the color that they're painted.

I dont normally consider myself TFG but this is one thing that does annoy me - People fielding vehicles that their codex doesn't have access to, because "they should have it".

I was in warhammer world not too long ago and saw a Black Templars player field Storm Talons and Storm Ravens. All painted up in Templar colours.

WTF!? No!

I wish that CSM had a Dreadclaw and more land raider variants but you dont see me painting up Iron Warrior Drop Pods or Land Raider Redeemers.

I suppose i can make an exception for Apoc games, that's kind of the point. But in 40k games? You dont get to pick'n'mix the choice bits from various codecies.

EDIT - I'm not having a go at the OP - he asked a question and it was answered. I'm just venting.

Except, the Talon, with the rules that it has, specifically the Escort rule, fit perfectly with Ravenwing.

I think i read somewhere they might be getting their own Speeder Variant as a flyer.

Obviously just a rumour but.....

If you like them, Ally or play their respective codexes. This is GW's intent. To help sell models ^^

on the forum. Obviously

If special SM chapters get to use a vehicle because they "should have it," then by that logic my Orks should be able to take Land Raiders, LRBT, Hammerheads and Fire Prisms.

It's only fair

I hope they dont add it to the dark angels but give them a good flyer. Its just too weak compared to other races flyers... (vendettas, doom scythes, etc...)

He could well of used Allies to get the SR or ST in, or double FOC and two sets of allies.

Ain't that the truth. My current plan is to play C:SM biker army themed after (using the models of) the Dark Angels.

If this a way of asking for better/updated looted vehicles, then I totally agree.

Captain Shrike's infiltrate rule fits perfectly with the Ravenwing too. Does that mean he should be in your codex too? No!

Man, for how long I've been listening to people bitch that the only difference between all the marine codices was their paint job, and that the only difference CSM has is spikes, the rapidity with which I've seen people shift to, 'why aren't all the marine codices the same?!?' is depressing.

Drop Pod does not get Drop Pod Assault due to not having the special rule.

A: Yes.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
