Every mission in the BRB has night fighting as a mission special rule. I can't believe I've only just noticed this! This means that vehicles with searchlights are a lot more useful than I fist thought, and that long fangs need to be very careful where they are deployed as they will be out of sight for the majority of games. I'm totally rethinking my list now to have a couple of vehicles with searchlights on and dropping a unit of long fangs as they can't all see a target

Its better to burn out than to fade away

They cant see it if they are over 36" away sure but imo by no means should the changes to when/how night fighting occurs be a factor in list building.

Eldar Corsair (forge world) and necrons can call upon nightfighting. Quite radical.

24-36" everyone gets cover too. I guess in many tournaments night fighting isnt used often, as certain armies do benefit from it more than others. So I think list building for tournaments might not need to be effected, however I think for friendly club games, the long fangs can stay on the shelf.... well maybe I'll just take one unit

it only affects the first turn (50% of games) or the 5th and subsequent turns (50 other % of games)

It has quite some impact, but it's not overwhelming because most armies have ways to circumvent it (projectors, BSF ...) even if a few ones are screwed

what's really ridiculous is that Dark Eldars have night vision while Marines (all Codexes), Tyranids and High Tech (Aspect warriors / eldar tanks for instance) units don't have it

You'd think having multiple vision modes in your helmet or extraordinary evolutionary skills would be relevant, but no, it's much more useful to live in a twilight-shrouded city ...
