Tervigons are only troops with a squad of termagants to go with them, hormagaunts don't work

looks good, if you can drop a few points, pick up a minimum size squad of termagants, then you take one tervigon as troop, the other as HQ, still have pretty much the same list, and it works with the FOC

This is partially correct, the Tervigon part is correct, however even though the Hormagaunt took a slight hit in 6th edition, they still can bring the pain to your enemies. You just have to run them right.

First of all you have to build your list around them. They aren't an add on, they are the core of your army and all angles must be considered or you're just throwing away points.

Fully upgraded, they are considered too expensive so it's best to just take them with one upgrade which in my opinion is Toxin Sacs.

Next they need a little mobile cover save, which is best gotten from a 10 man unit of fully upgraded Gargoyles. Since Gargoyles move 12" they can stay ahead of your Hormagaunts and not slow them down like a Termagant shield could.

Third, you need bodies... Hormagaunts need 20+ bodies to have the survivability and hitting power to take on multiple units. At 2000 points I like units of 24-26 depending on point tweaking.

Fourth, the Swarmlord. Yes, I said bring ole big nasty himself. Clocking in at 280 points he seems like a lot, but when you consider that an Armored Shell Tyrant with 2 powers is 240 points then and old Swarmy has 4 powers plus the all important ability to grant a friendly nearby unit Furious Charge or Preferred Enemy. He now synergizes with Hormagaunts better than Genestealers.

And last but not least, Catalyst or Endurance from your friendly Tervgion/Zoanthrope Psyker. This is just a bonus and not a necessity. I won a 1750 point Tournament this past weekend running all of these units and using the overlapping synergy that I'm talking about to great success.

If you want to really wreck face and love the idea of big Hormagaunt units, then try this out...

HQ: 445
Swarmlord (4 Biomancy Powers) -280 (Looking for Iron Arm/Enfeeble)
Tyranid Prime (LW&BS/TS) - 105
Tyrant Guard - 60

Elite: 552
8 Ymgarls - 184
8 Ymgarls - 184
8 Ymgarls - 184

Troops: 842
Tervigon (AG/TS/2 Biomancy Powers) - 195
Tervigon (AG/TS/2 Powers) - 195
10 Termagants - 50
10 Termagants - 50
22 Hormagaunts (TS) - 176
22 Hormagaunts (TS) - 176

Fast Attack: 160
10 Gargoyles (TS/AG) - 80
10 Gargoyles (TS/AG) - 80

1999 Points

This is how you run the Gargoyles & Hormagaunts

This is what it looks like at 1750 points with Hive Guard instead of Ymgarls (due to lower point value)

Get rid of one of the hive guard and replace it with a prime with lw/bs. This will give the group no majority t/ws values so it reverts to the highest (being your tyrant)

Also, get doom in a pod. He is 130 or so points of pure amazing. He makes up his points and more.

It was already stated that Tervigons cannot be taken as troop choices unless you have T-Gants with them. H-Gants, although effective, arn't as effective as T-Gants will be in this list.

Dropping the H-Gants will allow you to pick up more gargoyles for screening your army as it marches up.

Ymgarls in my experience have not been as effective in this edition due to over watch and the crazy amount of flamers people seem to bring as a result to overwatch. 8 in each squad is simply not enough in my eyes to warrent taking them when there is other things you can bring that will better support your army, like Devilgants in a pod for shock troops. These Devilgants will take your enemies focus off of your army and eliminate hard target in most cases with 60 shots coming out of the pod. A must kill for any opponent.

There is my 2 cents have fun man!
