Greetings everyone!

I have been playing Warhammer for a little less then a year, and been playing Space Wolves specifically for about 4 months. My shop is running a 'Escalation' type of tournament and we entered round 2. 1000 points is the cap and we have access to Troops, Fast Attack, and Elites. We have a small group so we face 2 opponents per round, with extra games for extra points and all that jazz. Right now I am 3-0 and need help expanding my list. Here is what I have right now. Will note before the list that I have only 3 Drop Pod models with no time to grab a 4th prior to the Holidays.

On that note, here we go!

HQ: Rune Priest

Grey Hunter Pack x8
Plasma Gun
Drop Pod
Standard Bearer

Grey Hunter Pack x8
Plasma Gun
Drop Pod
Standard Bearer

Grey Hunter Pack x8
Melta Gun
Drop Pod
Standard Bearer

Grey Hunter Pack x10
Plasma Gun
Melta Gun
Standard Bearer

Wolf Guard Pack x3
Terminator Armor x3
Combi-Melta x3
Stormshield x3

Obviously the idea is the break the Wolf Guard Pack apart and attach them to the Grey Hunters with the Drop Pods with the Terminator up front of the pack with the new 6e allocation rules. Gets me 3 squads on the board on turn 1 with 2 landing at my selected destination (hopefully). Trying to figure that weapon balance out mainly, as I hear arguments on full melta or plasma. Any advise would be amazing!

It looks good. I would just keep your plasma with plasma, melta with melta. So give your WG that goes to the PG squad a combi plas, the melta guy a melta.

Also, where is your rune priest going to go? Out on his own would be a bad idea...drop a wolf from a squad to fit him in.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

Why have you decided to waste the combat potential of the squad? At 1000pts a combat heavy cheap character, like the wolf guard will really mess up your enemy. There will not be too many pf or power axes to get through the 2+. If you pop the banner then the TDA will be nearly untouchable. I'd look to re-tool these guys. The rune priest is the combat weak model, not the WG.
For the same cost you could have 3 wolf claw/ss models. Yes they will such against 2+ saves but they will clean up when it comes to 3+ saves.
If you are really worried about 2+ saves you could just go with a ss and a power axe. Cleave the head off and it comes with the TDA.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.
