Hi all thinking of getting into warmahordes and might be picking circle as my first army.
I've heard that argus aren't very good so is it worth buying the battlebox or 2 player set.
Any help will be great

The 2p battlebox is a better choice, if you find someone to split it with (shouldn't be a problem, Dragons are quite popular in my area). For almost the same price of the single Orbors starter yuu'll get an additional unit of 5 Skinwalkers and a Winter Argus in place of a normal one (slightly better imo, plus generally I prefere two different choices instead of two of the same).
As for Argus, maybe once you'll get more minis you'll choose it not so often, but it has its tricks: the combined *attack can do some harm and circular vision can be useful when you'll less expect...

The Argus is actually not completely awful, just hard to justify as you start getting more things like Warpwolf Stalkers and the lot. That said, I suggest the two-player box. You get variety of beasts (I would always want two different things instead of two of the same), and all the pieces see some decent play save maybe the Argus itself. That and even if you don't split it, you get more or less the rulebook, dice, and the Legion half for free. Splitting things just means you get a badass deal.
And stuff.

It's hard to hit and can do decent damage. The biggest issue with the Argus is it's biggest boon...360 vision can really mess you up if you aren't careful.
*Hint: People can walk right around him without taking free strikes.

I have heard that argus is bad, but if you use him correctly he can be great

It's not a terrible beast. Just very mediocre and easily outshone by other things available to the faction most times.
And stuff.

I have always had an issue with it's incredibly bad RAT. I know you can boost it, but if it was 1 point higher I think it would be used a little bit more. The combined attack is actually pretty solid for smacking light warjacks/beasts.
Also - I have found that one of the best parts of an argus is it's pathfinder animus. There are alot of key models in the circle army that you really need to have pathfinder but we dont have a whole lot of ways to grant it, besides the argus animus. unfortunately, alot of people use the stalker which has pathfinder already. I never liked the sculpt thus, I have never used one, so, the argus sees more use for me.

I think PP realised the problem with putting 2 mediocre units in the same box, so they switched it with the winter argus. I personally don't mind them cos i like the sculpts

Pretty much everything but the 360 vision. It's a completely different model.

Nice things to do with Arguses:
1: Put animus on Lord of the Feast, proceed to thresher everything around that guy. Works for Stalker with Berserk too, though perhaps less exciting since you will want sprint on him at some point too.
2: Slamming things. GREAT speed and pathfinder lets you slam anything on a medium base like a champ, and even with the -2 to hit big things he can usually pull it off with a boost, no problem. Sometimes a little sub-optimal, but it can be a good option, and he is a little better at it than a Gorax, say, since his range is much greater and 360 LOS really lets him pull tricks.
3: Hunting solos maybe. He doesn't have Hunter or Eyeless sight so he isn't charging through woods, but he does move REALLY fast, so even just trotting through gets the job done with a boosted combo bite. Alternately, just running him 14" to engage can irritate those solos who shoot and can't melee down a super puppy.
4: Speed bump. Unlike the dog sleeping in your driveway, the Argus can be a really tough to run over speed bump due to his high Def. I have used him a few times to block a lane and he has performed admirably, though usually terminally.
5:... Cheap Pathfinder?
6: Not getting called cheap for taking a second Gorax?
7: The bark is ok for slowing down models you REALLY don't want to have charge you, but is so short you are likely to get pasted by anything faster than Khador jacks in the process, so use it carefully. If I am trying to make something easier to hit, I usually go for the Slam instead since his Mat is higher and I get some damage out of it.
That's all I have. I don't like the little guy much, but I have gotten some decent use out of him. I find myself wishing he had Virtuoso and Gun Fighter, or Assault, pretty frequently, but for 4 points he isn't too bad if you are running all living beasts and thus really need Pathfinder. Still, I usually take Gorax and a Lord of the Feast before him :(

There great if you use them right. Very carfully read the argus rules and play some casual games to get used to them. Try and get some good models to buff them, it really helps
