In the fluff of the ork codex, it talks about how orks will go on random Waaagh!'s. They do this be getting in a hollowed out or "homemade" asteroid that the mek made. They launch it into space and wherever they land... they attack.

I was thinking about making a ork drop pod... well not a drop pod, but a asteroid. Do you think people would play against this or is this overpowered for orks? C&C is appreciated.

Thanks,
-Micah

Just thinking about it the thing seems just too gosh darn big to actually ever really be able to field in a normal 40K game (i.e. not apoc). Think about...you want to be able to have 30 orks pop out of it but how are you actually going to be able to fit 30 models ANYWHERE on a board in a normal game w/o impinging on an enemies 1" Also we all know that ork Roks do not simply carry one squad of boyz but rather an entier warband for the most part. The models would have to be huge and I don't think there is anyway to actually field your army by getting out of the thing if you use normal deep strike rules. What I would agree with is something that had a bit more of the orky randomness to it and I think other players would like just as much. I propose that, as a rule, orks could attack via "Rok" if they chose (maybe take points for it, idk) but the whole army had to deploy in reserve. Then what you would do would be to somehow randomly determine which board edge the orks come in on, but the whole army comes in from reserves on that board edge. That is now your deployment zone (and YES, I'd say that It could very well be your opponents zone as who knows where a Rok could come from.

Basically I say that to represent a "rok" attack your entire army gets outflank but you only roll once for the whole lot of boyz. This would be the only way I would see to be able to field a Rok outside of an apoc game as the thing is just too big and given rules about how close you can be to the enemy it just makes sense. Not to mention that, in reality, the Rok would not worry about being placed on top of enemy models. I don't can if you are the biggest bad A in the universe; you got hit by an ASTEROID son; you're getting removed from the table, no saves allowed!

I agree with Zargyboy about the size, if you read hellsreach you get a sense of how big the ork landing ships are, (and Awesome).

........... but I could see a big mek getting ahold of some old used drop pods and getting a real "kunnin" idea about how to make thier own. I could see a Mek thinking it would be a great idea also to try and land on enemies instead of next to them, why not try to smush something with it.

I had an idea, if you made it similar to the rules for a drop pod, without the internal guidance or drop pod assault, but with a couple added things to make it orky. Maybe it could land on enemy models and if it hits it does some sort of damage, when it hits (I imagine it as not so much an asteroid but a pile of scrap metal dropped from space) it takes a penetrating hit, to show that it is just barely holding together.

i kind of wish us orks had a drop pod, but the Rok is way way too big. Maybe a smaller one called a Pebble or something lol one that has a transport capacity of 30 instead of an entire warband, no weapon, but deals impact damage if it lands on anything (vs the turret capability of the MEQ drop pods). Maybe make it 4-5 inchs diameter?

Even if it took out a heavy support slot, but didnt cost that much since its a one time use, i'd use the hell out of it instead of battlewagons.

EDIT: How bout this?

Da Pebblez

Composition: 1 Meteorite
Transport size: 30
Physical size: 5inch diameter.
Special Rules: Deepstrike, Meteor Strike
Meteor Strike: Place a large blast template over the Meteorite after rolling the scatter dice. All units affected, friend or foe (except other meteorites), suffer a S4 hit with AP4 and no cover saves. Place a crater under the Meteorite afterwords.
Point cost: 150pts, unsure which slot this would take.
Upgrades: Turbo-boosters +30pts (Increases impact speed, causing Str5 hits instead of Str4).

Follows normal droppod rules for the unit inside. Meganobz take two slots.

Personally I would gleam ideas from the Tyranid Molac (sp?). To me it would seem that with its damage dealing and pushing models back would be a good starting point.

I would say something like this would be used by a fortification slot.

Essentially, it's literally a rock that descends from the sky like normal deep striking deployment. Using Vineheart01's idea, the rock does Str 4 damage in a d6 inch radius from the rock model. Keep the 30 boy capacity, but also eliminate 1d6 of them as impact casualties.

Considering Drop Pods are 35 points and don't have to worry about Deep Strike Mishaps, I think 150 points is far too much (you could get 25 Boyz for that!) I'd make it about 50-60 points, with a 3D6 scatter (very orky), and a capacity of 20 models. Make it ignore Mishaps, but if it hits something that would normally cause a Mishap the embarked unit takes 1d6 S10 AP- hits (also very orky).
