I have an Iron Warriors army, and I just bought an airbrush. I'm trying to come up with names for my vehicles to brush on them. I thought of famous artillery pieces but they're mostly named ironically or just plain strange. I'm having a hard time coming up with anything that is siege related, except for different types of old school siege weapons (like onager, trebuchet, ballista, mangonel, etc). Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Well you can always go with standard metal / medieval weapon references. They don't have to be clever. I often take inspiration from what they name their fleets or their worlds background culture. 40k wiki could probably help you out there.

They were also all about attrition. Might be goo to think of synonyms or things for that stuff.

You could look towards history for a few pointers, try 'Iron Mountain', 'Mortier' or 'Stratosphere' or names thereof....

This list, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_artillery_by_name, has quite a few names you could look at, maybe link some together or just use an anagram creator, such as this http://www.wordsmith.org/anagram/index.html.

Good luck!

Have you considered naming your vehicles and squads for historical sieges where the attackers were successful?

The list here would be a good place to start. Remember that many of these sieges will have consisted of a number of smaller actions, with individual forts and bastions being taken or destroyed. They will have their own, less recognisable, names that you can also use.

If you name you Rhino "Madrigal", I would make love to you.

Strangely enough, a RMN destroyer in David Weber's HH series is named HMS Madrigal

These ideas are amazing. I especially like the reference to Olympia, maybe some sort of dig at the Imperial Fists like Bane of Dorn or something. The reason I feel I must do this is that I was a tanker in the army and naming our tanks was a big deal, some of my personal tank/humvees were named Car Ramrod, Clownshoes, Comin to Get You, and Crazy Ivan. I was in C company so our tanks had to start with "C." I really like these ideas and I just got an airbrush so I'm getting the stuff together to make stencils for them.
