Subject: [Aliens] ! bug hunt home brew game . PICS
i have a bunch of the old 1990s leading edge games colonial marines and aliens and drop ship and some other stuff . i have my 4 x4 bug cave board i did for the war store weekend mega starship trooper battle i did . so i wanted to do a game with them . so scracthed out a set of space hulk inspired rules with a little more crunch . and away we went on another bug hunt ! the marine squad dropped down via dropship in the pipe 5x5 . the marines rolled out spliting in two teams to cover more ground . their objecives were to find any colonists stuck in the mining tunnels , if possible locate a generator that would power up a local way station , and kill any xenos they would come into contact with . mission went smoothly at first ( as it always does ) the marines droped any alien that they came across . the teams smart gunners laying down heaps of fire power when need . we played with the rules that some alien encounters had a chance of a special ambush rule on a roll of a dice called " there coming out of the god damn walls!!!" it happened to one of the teams . close quarters with aliens is no fun ! also when they get hit with explosive tipped rounds and acid blood sprays every where . team 1 was now tending to there wounded and covering the hall ways as more xenos race from different tunnels towards them . finally they were brought down . team 2 faring better engaged aliens with ease and made it to the edge of the hive . they too had some fierce close encounters and soon were fighting for survival . drakes smart gun jamed . quickly the team reorginized it self . fighting on . but the swarm became to much the brae and finally the colonial marines went down , taking as many bugs as they could down . great game . we did an after action report after words and discussed some rule changes well do next time . and discussed what we would do differntly next time . over all a blast of time . my friend constanly played sound effects from the movie of pulse rifle , smart gun and alien screams from his smart phone further enriching the game ! well thats it ...GAME OVER MAN !!enjoy the pics

Nice job!
I love seeing a project like this where someone comes with a new set of rules and they've done the hard work of playtesting
Your Colonial marines figures also look great. Unfortunately they are also out of print. Luckily for anyone wanting some similar figs, this guy has done a rather extensive comparison of all the currently available not-colonial-marine figures:
http://dawnofthelead.com/2011/03/25/colonial-marine-miniatures-a-review/ The Denizen Mid Tech are my favorite (I have their Ventaurans and they're great) for their extremely fine detail and low price, but they'll be a bit small in size (27mm sole to eye and realistic proportions) for some folks.
Also, what model is the APC?
Lastly, kudos on the rules development. It's rarer and rarer today to find someone who shows up with a set of homebrew rules and has actually playtested them before presenting them to the community! I look forward to reading them if/when you make them available.

Hassel free has some colonial marine looking figs too . They have under their new stuff a really nice smart gunner fig just picked some of them up . And they sell pulse rifle bits . Check it out . I just wish a company would make some xeno looking substitute figs .

If you guys want to try it in 15mm, Khurasan has 'Mid-Tech Human Defence Forces in Light Armour':
and 'Alien Hive Warriors':
Actually this could work well at 15mm, the range of mid/hard scifi vehicles at that scale is getting nicely varied lately, and would work easier for "proper" bugrush ^^

Still hard up on finding good 28mm bugs though :/ Short of just converting so 40k nids (which id rather not do considering the amount of the little blighters probably needed >>

Folks interested in gaming aliens might like to know that the "Aliens - Colonial Marines Technical Manual" was re-released last year.
It's still in stock at many locales (I got mine at Amazon) and is a steal at 14 bucks.
Originally released in the mid 90's, it still holds up well. It has color and B&W drawings and a some movie pics and goes into very deep detail about the workings, technology and tactics of the Colonial Marines.
