Subject: MSS and challenges question

Heya folks, my question for Dakka is how to use MSS in challenges and CC. To my knowledge they both happen in the Sub Phase, so what happens? MSS works only from base to base contact; and while challengers are moved to be btb, if the MSS goes off first then the challenger facing off against the MSS carrier isn't the one effected. Obviously, if the opposite happens (challengers move to btb>MSS goes off) then the challenger is the one effected by the MSS.
It's been a while since I've seen it somewhere here on Dakka, but the way it was described was whoever's turn it happenned to be during that Assault Phase, they were the "active player" or somethign like that. That the active player got to decide what goes off during each step (as in 3 different effects go off during the same Sub Phase, the active player gets to decide the order they
anyone got an idea of how this should work?

IIRC it depends who the (active) player is. Essentially they choose the order. (going from memory from a previous discussion)

Since the two happen at the same time current player chooses the order.
So if you are the current player and you assault something and the MSS model makes it into base contact with an enemy and you are going to challenge you have 3 options:
Use MSS on a model then issue a challenge
Issue a Challenge then use MSS
Don't activate MSS
If your opponent is the current player and assaults you they choose the order so you can end up with a few scenarios(assuming both players declare and/or accept challenges):
your MSS is in base contact and he orders it MSS then Challenge(you get someone other than the model challenging).
Your MSS is not in base contact with anything and he orders it MSS then challenge(effectively wasting MSS)
He orders it challenge then MSS.
It comes down to against a smart opponent you will most likely not get to use the MSS against his challenger.

Basically, if its the Necron player's turn, He will make challanges be first. if accepted, the challangers are now in BtB. Now you activate MSS, effecting the guy in the challange.
If its the opposing players turn, he will decide to have MSS activate first. Then challanges will be issued. The guy in the challange will only be effected if he was actually in BtB with the model with MSS, which shouldn't be the case.
