Hey, Just wondering how you guys would paint recently converted to chaos marines? at first I was thinking of them basically splashing the paint on themselves, or would just having sort of "graffiti" style x's and crossouts on the chapter and loyalist symbols work and maybe paint it like they've been fighting for a long time so their armour is chipped?

thoughts?

also had an idea where it was sort of like my first idea except it was the loyalist paint washing off to show their "true colours"

I have half a mind to kill you, and the other half agrees

I prefer the old style of Red Corsairs: loyalist look, plus maybe 1/4-1/2 chaos bits (making the transition); imperial symbols crossed off or otherwise defaced and most chaos marks just painted, not raised brass or w/e

While the washing off thing could look cool, it makes more sense as alpha legion (traitors who are posing as loyalists) than as recent renegades, unless you're trying to show chaos somehow bleeding through.

Yeah, the old fluff for Red Corsair traitors was that they kept their loyalist armour in the original colours, but defaced all their loyalist icons by overpainting them with chaos icons or crosses in red paint (or the blood of vanquished enemies, bwah ha ha), to taunt their imperial enemies. Only as their armour was severely damaged would it be gradually replaced by chaos equivalents.

To me, this seemed pretty cool, and made a lot of sense for recent traitors.

I read somewhere about renegades that would paint a red x over loyalist symbols, I've seen a picture somewhere also of the same thing.

I think it would be cool to see.
