I plan on getting some eldar corsairs for my ork freebooters. The thing is, they are desperate allies, so I was wondering, could you fine dakkanites share your experiences with that type of allies? how much are you gimping yourself with non-scoring potentially paralyzing non-friendlies allies?

The key, when I ran them, was to be very careful about deployment and movement. Always stay out of 6".
I used mine purely as damage dealing units. As long as you have strong scoring otherwise, you should be fine.

Well, Petre is right, this is the only way to use them properly. Imagine an ally detachment of drop podding Marines that arrives in the enemy backfield operating independently and far away from your front ranks.

Yeah, seems Desperate Allies would be most useful as a 'smash into the enemy' force (deepstriking or infiltrating or zooming forwards or whatever) to minimise conflict with your main force. Ideal for some sort of 'glass hammer' unit that can cause a lot of damage before dying.

With all those drawbacks you really have to ask what you're getting out of your desperate allies that you can't get out of your own codex. What do Eldar corsairs have to offer an Ork army? Is there really any benefit, or are you just making a "pirate" theme list?

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

The coice of corsairs is mainly the pirate/mercenary theme.
Aaand I like the jetpack units I guess I'll try to deepstrike them, and infiltrate/outflank an elite choice.
When the new Tau codex arrives I plan on doing a kroot mercenary team also ( hopefully thats possible)
