I think Gotham City is meant to be New York... or possibly Chicago.

Not quite... that's more Metropolis. However, I understand that most interpretations of Metropolis attribute it to New York City; which sort of 'relegates' Gotham to be Chicago; Coast City is (was) most definitely LA...

The fact that in the latest Batman movie the city was on an island connected only by various bridges while also being on the ocean would make it almost exclusively New York would it not? I mean Chicago may have been what they were aiming for back in the day, but now it's pretty explicitly New York.

This was much more grimdark then anything in 40k if we're talking grimdark....

Needless to say, grimdark is clearly not grimdark enough if N.Korea can beat it out then.

=P It breeds more "disloyality" amongst the family then than anything. Youknow, rather than allowing the family to repent their fellow's deeds against the Great Leader you stick them all in a prison camp instead. But meh, I guess it breeds fear in the populace more, which is always a good thing to have as one of your primary tools of leadership.
