Has anyone tried Pedro and sternguad in pods spam?, was thinking 3 squads of 10 sternguard in drop pods, loaded with lots of combi plasmas and meltas to boot. Plus libby with two tac squads also with plasmas/meltas (libby would be lvl 2 with null zone and vortex), sternguard would have 3 attacks base each (as long as they are within 12inches of Ped) and theres a lot of rapid fire goodness from them, its a hard hitting army imo and should table some armies (other drop pods, flyer spam armies etc)

What do you guys think? and any experince?

Tac squads can't have a plasma/melta gun one of them would have to be the heavy variant MM or Plas cannon.

Vortex is a heavy PSA so if the libby is not in TDA he cannot move and fire so it seems Epostilary would be a waste.

You may as well take something like force dome/null zone.
Or avenger/null zone

Of course, sorry I wasnt clear, they both have mutli melta and plasma guns, and sargs with combi plasmas.

Right I didnt know that about vortex JD!, I have hardly used vanilla marines yet, force dome would be good

Pedro/Sternguard spam does work, but it's a very exact army: making a mistake will cost you the game, but it's fluffy and it can work. Just be careful. I'm no master tactician, so I won't give you suggestions on how to run them, just that they can work.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I want to try the Pedro/sternguard las cannon spam army. Idea is 3x sternguard w/2x las cannons, tacticals with las cannons, predators with lascannons something like 14-16 lascannons all behind an aegis wall. At less than 2k point limits.

Imho if you are running stern guard a scoring units then take 2 5 man sniper scouts with a missile and forgo the rest of your troops. 8 scoring units is plenty and you should focus more points on aggressive units to compliment 30 podding sterns. Thunder fire cannons work as you can give them pods to make a full 6 count and keep the sternguard together.

Just need 5 Pods to keep the sternguard together. So three sternguard and two thunderfire would do it.

I've been playing crimson fists for about a year now and love pedro and his sternguard. There are multiple threads on here under crimson fist in tactics and army lists so i wont go over all the nuances here. Just build some pods, load up on combi-weps and wreck some face

The reason I like 6 pods is so you can hold all 3 units of stern back when needed.

I recently played against a Sternguard build. It was a fun game, but very unforgiving for my opponent. The high cost of troops means you *have* to neutralise any major threat to them as soon as they land. Unfortunately there was an Executioner left standing thanks to an ADL which proceeded to wipe out a squad of Sternguard.

That loss on turn 1 was indeed very painful for my opponent. I can see a major weakness of the Sternguard lists is ADL placement preventing Melta-range and also providing a cover save.

If you have the points, I would recommend a squad of TH/SS terminators too. They really help with high-threat target saturation and with a DP that has a locator beacon you can put them pretty much anywhere you want. Combined with combat squadding the Sternguard you have a horrible MSU, high threat list that gets in your opponents face very quickly.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

I usually run one or two TFC's in a Pedro / Sternguard list.

This serves two purposes

1) Cheap Heavy Support that saves more points for Sternguard

2) Has long range and can negate cover saves.

I've found this to be a good counter to squishy units using ADL's to resist my alpha strike.

Thus I drop my sterns, and focus their fire on units outside the ADL, then unload on the units in cover with the TFCs.

It's not a sure win tactic, as it realy depends on what's behind the ADL, but it helps negate scouts, big IG units, and other units of that type.

I really want to run a 10 man unit of sternguard with two heavy flamers and a librarian, drop it down next to something, have him take nullzone and something else, swap for others if enemy is not daemons(most likely Biomancy or telekinisis). Adapt as necessary.

I run two 10 man Sternsquads

1) 5x combi-flamer, 5x combi-melta

2)5x combi-plasma, 5x combi-melta

This allows me a bit of flexibility, and 5 flamers tends to do the trick while allowing them to keep their special ammo upgrade, which you lose with the HF.

Very true, you have to use combi weapons or you lose your special ammo.

I have used the sternguard a lot, sometimes mixed but mainly combi meltas, sometimes 5 or 10 so I can combat squad them for different targets, always in a drop pod usually guranteed first blood
