I'm currently working on some of the lovely new terminator models from forge world as the start to my Blood Angels heresy era force and have completed a pair of them ready for comments or critisism.
Lovely models to work with and I've kept the basing as plain as possible so that all the attention is focused on the model itself.

Very lovely model. Could use a little bit of contrast though. Shoulderpads look sweet.

Life is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless and perfunctory gift nobody ever asked for. Unreturnable because all you get back is another box of chocolates. So you're stuck with this undefinable whipped mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down because there's nothing left to drink. Sure once in a while there's a peanut butter cup or a English toffee, but they're gone too fast and the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits of hardened jelly and teeth shattering nuts. If you're desperate enough to eat those all you've got left is a. An empty box, filled with useless brown paper wrappers. |

I like them a lot.
The minimal amount of color on the bases definitely helps keep the focus on the terminators.

I really like them, a million times better than I can do (I've got the hand shakes), but to me the fluff always talks about how "pretty" the Blood Angels are and as such I feel like they lack the ornamental armour that is always talked about. But seriously. Awesome looking in spite of that.

Thanks guys, I'm really loving assembling and painting these terminators and detemined to take my time with them given the relatively high cost per model they worked out to. First time painting up blood angels so its a bit of learn as I paint but I think the colours are coming together well.
spincr wrote:Very lovely model. Could use a little bit of contrast though. Shoulderpads look sweet.
What contrast would you suggest? I was looking for ways to make it more eye catching without putting in colour for colours sake which resulted in the somewhat basic scheme.

I found precious little details on what the blood angels looked like in the heresy so I was kind of winging it on the scheme with only a tiny picture on the lexicanum to work from. As for making them more ornate it may be beyond my modelling capabilities at this stage. Would you happen to know if Legion Praetors for Blood Angels are meant to be wearing gold or red? I've had conflicting opinions on this matter.

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

Although I almost always prefer matte to shiny, these do look very good. Perhaps another colour on the base? Being only shades of grey maybe lets down the quality of the painting of the actual models.

I'm not entirely sure. Based on what I've seen and read, I think that they are red and just are much more decorated. They do have gold trim for sure as far as I know.

Ugh, you are making me want to shell out the cash for actual Cataphracti terminators rather than using the ones I am converting using bits and 3rd party heresy shoulder pads...
Great work!

Well red's opposite on the color wheel is green. These mini's testify to a very experienced painter (in my opinion), so a few small lights/ osl/something else would perhaps looks nice. Just a little touch. Can't really think of anything negative though

I am looking into adding a little flavour to some of the bases, I like the grey to work with as a base but I want to add more battle field debris to some of the other bases and perhaps some helmets/gear from traitor legionnaires who have fallen in battle.
reps0l wrote:Nice job, mate. What color did you put on the hammers? I like the tone a lot.
There is probably a quicker and easier way of doing the hammers that I havent found yet but I found my method and stuck with it.
Base: Rhinox Hide
Heavy Drybrush: Sycorax Bronze
Light Dry Brush: Golden Griffon
Shade: Agrax Earthshade.

Thanks, I think I've hit a stage in my painting where I am confident in the techniques that I can already do, however I am shaky on the advanced techniques that you had mentioned ( Osl), without spare models to test them on I always reach the stage where I would apply them and then decide against it rather than risk sacrificing the work I already did.

Great Job, I love what you did with the models.
Well if you are looking for contrast. Use the Green you put on the Hammer power cable and create a triangle by putting a green tuft on the base. Then you follow it up with something green like a purity seal off the Bolter or Shoulder pad. If you put these spot colors in they would help move your eye around the model.

Agreed on the last part however i don't like the idea of putting life (living stuff) on the base. I kinda like the blood colored death that's walking the burned grounds. TBH i'm kind of jealous. Those miniatures look so sweet i wish i had one

the red definitely does the models justice here, i really do like looking at shiny models, ( especially if they are painted well!) the straps look really nice and they stand out, so thats a win win. the bases although they are rocky they could stand to glorify the model more by putting another color (however slight) on it. fantastic work though.

Been working on the Legio Praetor (though he may be temporary when FW produce a more suitable model) in order to get the army playable (Praetor for Pride of the Legion to turn my cataphracti into troops). Given that I had no sample weapon to hand for a Paragon Blade I used a GK force halberd to represent what at the time would have been a unique and potent weapon (no GK in the heresy) to work as a Paragon Blade.
I kept the armour relatively simple again and instead used the bone coloured helmet to denote rank, while there is no fluff basis for it he stands out well to me at the moment. I've added green to his chest shield to try and add more colour in, and a muted green blade on the halberd.

Hum, I thought I was going to like the Cataphractii but now im not sure.
Its not the paint scheme (which BTW is amazing and far better than anything I can do), its the models, they are a bit, well, clunky!

Thanks about the paint scheme, as for the models they are fluffwise (I think) meant to be highly protective suits that are more cumbersome than terminator armour, in that regard the clunkiness suits the background.

The sword was a debated point before I stuck it on him, but since these are veterans of the legion I interpretted it as a relic passed from one legion to another as a mark of pride and trust for a previous battle
