In the warp, searching for Marbo

Was thinking of starting up a SM army after my IG.

Can anyone give me a quick overview of the codex, what they're good at/weak against, specializations? Or perhaps a website with all this?

Haven't decided if I'm going to choose an chapter, or make my own yet, so any info would help (and save money/time getting the codex's).

After all these years of searching for Marbo...he found me. Heretics beware! He's back!

Your FLGS might have store copies you can look at, especially if you are a regular gamer/customer.

I'd play space wolves or blood angels if i was going to make a space marine army. Divination is good so you do not want to start playing Blue space marines unless you plan on start playing Tau. That being said you should make a real mans army and take all the plastic minis you own boil them into liquid and make tyranids out of them. Also it doesn't matter what space marine army you play you will be eated by the swarm. all in good fun. take care.

I suggest you use Codex: Space Wolves, 2nd Edition.

Your Marines will be more expensive, points wise, but spamming Cyclone Missile Launcher Terminators... awesome.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

Wandering the Galaxy in search of knowledge

Vanila SM are good all rounders with units who are good at range and units good in melee. However a few codexs ( blood angels, space wolves etc ) focus of melee over range but can still field good ranged units. I'm planning an army and I plan to use the Blood Angel codex because I can take assault marines as troops.

Overall SM are quite tough but come in low numbers because they are so expensive point wise. Choose wisely

I would recommend Blood Angels only because it contains the majority of the units in C:SM but also has it's own unique units and additional abilities. Unless you are really married to the idea of using a particular character from C:SM of course.
