Ok, So I'm looking for any good thoughts or links to articles that discuss competitive guard in 6th ed. I'm kinda at a loss for what to do with my guys and while I have a few ideas I like getting ideas from those who play a lot more then me!

Ideas I'm having right now
1. allies- But who?
2. Straken-ignores ALL armor saves and kills anything that walks (or crawls)
3. A backline disruption heavy list- again ?allies? and lots of stormies and al-rahiem goodness
4. pure mech guard- still a valid build in my opinion (as long as you bring enough)

Thoughs, questions, or concerns are appreciated.

The pen is mightier then the sword, but you must keep a sword handy for when the pen runs out of ink.

Armored battlegroup or Elysian drop troops. What could be better than more FOC slots of IG stuff?

2. Straken-ignores ALL armor saves and kills anything that walks (or crawls)

And costs too much and wants you to assault with a shooting army. Spend the points on more guns and just shoot them to death.

(Hint: plasma and melta ignore all armor saves too.)

No. Splitting up your force like that means your opponent can focus on one half at a time with their entire army and crush it, then move on to clean up the other half.

Yes.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

You'll want a Leman Russ in there somewhere too. Probably a regular Main Battle Tank with hull heavy bolter or flamer from the look of your post and a Aegis defense line.

Maybe list out what you have available and we can better help.

40k is as exciting as riding a pony, which doesn't sound very exciting.......

But the pony is 300 feet tall and covered in CHAINSAWS!

Allies: C:SM are battle brothers and can help the low leadership witha few ATSKNF models.

Straken: He's a melee monster true, but he is better used in a melee oriented guard list (which is a risky strategy) or as a strong counter-melee central unit (as he gives coutner-assault all around)

Backliners: Scout sentinels with flamers/multi-lasers for infantry, autocannon or lascannon for vehicles. If you go with marine allies, you could always take a couple of scout squads for that; it'll fill in as your ally's troop choice and can fill the distruptive gap you're trying to fill.

Mech: I run an hybrid, so I can't say.

But I'll support Portugus on saying that you would need a Leman russ, at least 1, even the basic one can be of great help.
