I played a 2000 point battle with my friend yesterday (Ultramarines vs Salamanders) The mission we rolled for was 2. Purge the alien.

Long story short, my friend finished his turn 6, so it was now my turn (final turn) Victory points were a draw (I thought I was in the lead, but after 'first blood' and 'slay the warlord' and killing my extra independant chaplain, it worked out we were level) Anyway, I only had a few bikes left, and 1 assault troop that had rallied together roughly center of the board (playing vangaurd strike map) I moved my bikes a few inches from a lone rhino, my sargent has metla bombs and sensing an easy victory point, but my assault trooper was also preparing to step into the enemies deployment line, therefore gaining a further victory point for 'Linebreaker' (he had nobody near my line)

Just as I finished my movement phase in turn 6 my friend was asking me to roll a dice, but at the same time I asked him if I could run with a jump pack? to which I assumed he found the answer, I rolled and got a 6, and pulled out the tape measure as you do, but he said "right the game continues to turn 7" he was reading through the mission whilst I was taking my turn.

So I have 2 questions here, because obviously taking one more turn would of destroyed me.

1.) We were suppose to be rolling for game length from turn 5, this was now turn 6, and he had finished his last move, and I had finished my movement phase in turn 6 also. Surely this should not of been allowed??

2.) Can jet packs run instead of shooting? lol <<< a less serious question.

In the interest of fairness we called it a draw as we are both still getting used to the new rules / missions, but with a reply to the top 2 questions I would like to know if it was possible to gain a victory against the Salamanders. Thanks

You roll at the end of turn five, after both players have had their full turns. The same happens at the end of turn six. It sounds like you did it halfway through turn six, which was incorrect.

I assume, as you were playing marines, that you mean jump pack. There is a different thing called a jet pack, which works differently.

Jump pack units can run just fine, although they don't get to jump over things and just move normally.

Yeh I meant Jump pack assault marines.

Thanks for that, the dice was rolled more than halfway through turn 6, my friend took his turn 6, I had done my movement in turn 6 and was about to run with my assault marine and melta bomb his rhino too.

This is correct.

If you run you can not assault.( it was different in 5th, but in 6th you can no longer run then launch an assault).

Not really relevant as the Biker Sgt has the Melta bomb, and the assault squad was going for linebreaker.

At least that's what I got out of it. YMMV

I was simply confirming that you can not run then assault.

The running unit has nothing to do with the bikers, and from what was described the running unit would not have gotten linebreaker, as they were " roughly center of the board" and the max would be a 6 inch run, which is not enough to get into the deployment zone of his opponent.

even then there is no guarantee that the melta bomb would have destroyed the Rhino, it could have just immobilized it or taken off a weapon.

The question I asked was about the game length, I know I may of not blown up the rhino or got into the deployment zone

Neal, what was I assaulting?? I was moving, then attempting to run into your lines to gain another victory point, not assault anything lol. Might I add. Full 12" move follwed by a dice roll run attempt, when roughly center of the board would have the sufficient distance to make it, if lucky enough.

Jamesdean understood
But thanks for the replies

Right-0

I do really miss that about my Orks

As for game length, yea random game length is generally used. However it's not the end of the world if you both decided on a fixed turn to end.

1. Rolling is done at the end of the game turn. It should not be done in the middle of a players turn due to unfair advantage that could happen by knowing whether the game will end or not.

2. Yes.
