So, I am scheduled to fight my shopowner's cousin in our escalation league, that I signed up for rather late, and turns out that aside from his 5,000 pts of Tyranids that I knew about, he also has an army of never losing necron air that he uses for tournaments. So, my question is this, how much air can necron's bring in at 500 pts, and just what would you suggestion in order to avoid losing my vulnerable ground troops in a couple vector strikes?

This horror, this abomination, has thought and purpose that functions on an unimaginable, galactic scale and all we can do is try to stop the swarms of bioengineered monsters it unleashes upon us by instinct. We have given the horror a name to salve our fears; we call it the Tyranid race, but if is aware of us at all it must know us only as Prey."

First off what army/ armies do you collect because then we can know what you have to work with when it comes to anti-air possibility.

609th Cadian- (1000 Points)
Lunar Knights (3000 Points)
High Elves (4000 Points)

Tyranids, and as is, I would have 11-12 Devilgants for 500pts.

The army I am working with at 500 pts is:

1x Prime, dual boneswords, adrenal glands, toxin sacs
1x Carnifex, dual scything talons

11x devilgants
12x Hormagaunts, adrenal glands, toxin sacs

in 500 points, the most a cronair force can really manage is 2 nightscythes.

I would imagine a list would look something like...

Overlord MSS, Warscythe

2x Warrior/immortal units in nightscythes,

with the balance spent on crypteks.

As for your own force...

It is totally possible to have 2 tervigons in 500 points, 1 will be the HQ, and 1 will be a troops choice, with the balance spent on termagants, or you could mix it up a little and just have 1 Tervigon, and a wider selection of units such as Hive guard, possibly some warriors and so forth. but with the limited number of points, 2 MC's will be a nightmare to kill, and since the tervigons can spam new units, holding objectives against the cronair will be incredibly simple

Keep in mind that if you cousin has loaded his Flyers up with the troops, then he has scarcely little on the battlefield and could lose very easily if you have anything that can hit him with an alpha strike before the Flyers come in.
