More or less what the title says. Just wondering if anyone knew of a chapter that known for major drop pod assaults, and using vast ranks of guard to assail enemy positions. (im building up a horde guard list, and i think space marines dropping into the enemy deployment would be funny).

Black Templars and Steel Legion; a very fluffy list. Yarrick and the Steel Legion now roll with Helbrecht chasing down Ghaz.

Raven Guard and Mentor Legion are both noted for attaching small units of Astartes to Imperial Guard and local PDF forces. The Ultramarines have their own massive PDF (Ultramar Defense Auxilia) that gets deployed outside the Ultima Segmentum alongside the Astartes.

Space Wolves and Cadians or DKoK, or any mass shooty regiment. Put in a Wolf Priest or Rune Priest to add in things like Prescience, Fearless or Preferred Enemy. Flank with a Lone Wolf on each side to take care of any outflankers. Personally I want to have Valhallans because personally I think that would be awesome looking.

This^

The Wolves go for the throat. We go for the eyes. Then the tongue. Then the hands. Then the feet. Then we skin the crippled remains, and offer it up as an example to any still bearing witness. The wolves were warriors before they became soldiers. We were murderers first, last, and always."

Guard with allied Space Wolves are really good in game and it makes a lot of sense according to the background of 40k.

Valhallans (or to a lesser extent Vostroyans) with Space Wolf allies would be over-the-top awesome. I want to see this!

Raven Guard and Raptors both seem to be quite willing to join forces with the Imperial Guard.

Thanks for the replies. One thing i forgot to mention was my guard are cadians. I would do space wolves, but there's already a space wolf player at our club. However, Black Templar's sound cool, and i could always include some steel legion squads as veterans (although it could be difficult to lava base them).

If you wanna go Steel Legion, a mate of mine also used DKoK and just painted and modded them a bit differently. Now I think because he got his hands on a bunch of DKoK figures, he uses them as his regular troops and uses the actual Steel Legion figures as veterans. Or he did it the other way around, can't remember.

Either way just some advice if you manage to find one army cheaper than the other so you can still use both to bulk up your army faster. And don't worry about another player having Wolves, if that's going to stop you having them as allies what happens when someone else is using Steel Legion? Are you just not gonna play at all?

I'd say Salamanders, because they are noted for being very compassionate towards regular humans
But if you want drop pod assault, blood angels are winners
Between troop assault squads, death company, and a variety of dreadnoughts, they take the cake

This pretty much applies to any Astartes and Guard forces. You can take your pic. Not to mention you could always just make up your own... the 40K 'verse is your oyster (it's nice and awesome like that ).

Homebrew Imperial Guard: 1222nd Etrurian Lancers (Winged); Special Air-Assault Brigade (SAAB)
Homebrew Chaos: The Black Suns; A Medrengard Militia (think Iron Warriors-centric Blood Pact/Sons of Sek)
