The plan is for this to be the core of larger lists. I'm new, so I'm taking it one step at a time.

I'm looking for any suggestions for this list itself, as well as any suggestions about where to go with it next (moving up to 750 or 1000 pts)

HQ:
Big Mek
+ Kustom Force Field
+ 'eavy armor
90 pts

T1:
30 slugga boyz
+ nob
+ power klaw
+ 'eavy armor
220 pts

T2:
25 slugga boyz
+ nob
+ power klaw
+ 'eavy armor
190 pts

Common advice seems to be that Bosspoles are mandatory. At 500 pts, however, I chose to up nob survivability as opposed to...mob...survivability.

PS When listing armies like this, is it the rule to list a 30-ork squad as "29 slugga + 1 nob" or "30 slugga boyz + 1 nob"?

I am a new 40k player with a lot of Orks from two Black Reach starter sets as the core I am building from. From my limited knowledge, I believe your list is solid at 500 pts. I've been told that Shootas are better now under the 6th edition rules.

I read somewhere Big Mek is better to run with for HQ than Warboss. I was pretty happy every time I have used my Warboss however. Our game shop tables often throws a lot of craters or other area terrain into the mix, so I have found cover saves are usually plentiful, somewhat negating the usefulness of a force field unless flamers, marker lights, ect are in use.

Please post how your Big Mek works out!

I'd go with shootas.

The list looks good. As people have said shoota boyz might be better, especially at 500 points because there will not be too many vehicles or transports running around so you might be able to get 1 or 2 turns shooting at a unit be charging. If you are looking into growing you list I would suggest lootas. They are awesome and really fun models to paint (I love orks with giant ridiculous guns). After that one fun thing to do is to convert some ork kannons. I have found they are super cheap and pretty awesome in 6th edition thanks to the new artillery rules. Some people hate them, I dont know why, but dakkajets are also great models. After lootas your own flyers are the best way to face enemy flyers, and in some matchups the dakkajets will spend all game causing chaos for the enemy, especially on the waaagh turn. Probably one of the most fun units in all of the ork codex are stormboys, the problem is that they are double the cost of a normal boy but just as fragile, that being said they are insanely fast and can get into assualt on turn 2, but they might be something to look into after getting a core of lootas, lootas are that good. All that being said, you can never go wrong with more boyz, try out shoota boyz and see if you like them, I myself love shooty ork lists with lots of lootas, shoota boys, kannons, and dakkajets. Oh and when you are footsloggin boys accross the map most people would generally agree that a big mekk with a KFF is almost manditory, just keep him cheap and keep in the back to keep him alive. Hope some of that helps!

I always press dat, if you know what I mean.

I actually have the dakkajet model. Is dakkajet still the best configuration? I've heard varying things pre and post 6th edition change.
