Hello Im new to Dakka a friend recommended that i sign up here and ask some questions before starting WH40k

I Have about 800 dollars to start up an army and I was wondering what would be the best one to start

What im interested in is

Eldar
Dark Eldar
Tau
Tyranids


I know alot of my friends play space marines and i wanted to play something different. Ive been told each of these armies are challenging to start with but I don't mind losing so that's not a big deal.
Just wondering what the pros and cons are on each army and what all you would suggest. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and suggestions on where to start.

First off if your friends have armies try to play a few games with as many armies as you can! It would be terrible to buy an army and spend all the time on it and end up not liking it.

Second, check out the 40k section, there is a lot of tactics and army building advice there!

I personally bought a few small armies instead of putting all my money into one, but that's just me.

Welcome. My first army was nids and they were a lot of fun to play. I ran a full genestealer list at the time unfortunately it doesn't work any more without adding other units.
