I am currently kit bashing some Volksstrum and was needing some help with non Winter uniforms.Could someone hook me up with some goood reference material? All i can find is winter crap.
I am going for the rag tag look of the end of the war '45ish.
Currently i have a boat load of german Heer infantry Riflemen, belgeit with Assult rifles,SS inf. with Assult Rifles Heer with Assult Rifles. All of my models are a mix of Old Glory and BF metal and Plastic and damn, the Plastic BF Infantry are nice.I think they have a winner with theese i just hope they do not pull a GW thing and give you the same amount as if you bought metal.BTW i am not a fan of the plug and play bases.BAd enough that i put four layers of stuff on bases now i got to do more work, WTF i spend more time on the bases then i do on painting the models.

Volkstrum didn't have a unifrom aside from a black and red armband. Of course all kinds of 'real' unifroms were picked up and used but the majority would have worn their civilian/work clothes with the addition of the armband and maybe a helmet.

Some units were fully uniformed but they were comparatively rare.

A google images search for Volksstrum will show you what I mean.

Peter pig has a (small) Volksstrum range, you could also use Battlefront Soviet Partisans/greatcoated Germans for a bit of variety. Its not suprising that most references for Volkstrum are 'winter crap' as they only really served in the winter of 44/45 with a bit of the early spring of 45.

The prefect example of someone missing the point.
Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

Its just a shame that they couldn't fight off Andy Chambers.

Most were issued Heer greatcoats, though some also were issued Luftwaffe uniforms or wore uniforms that they owned - Such as NSKK members, RAD personnel, Org. Todt etc. They fought exclusively in winter, only being raised in October 1944. So 'winter crap' is really your only choice...

Most however would have some form of greatcoat bearing one of the three armbands styles - Black with red insignia, White with black insignia and Yellow with black insignia.

Units in the east tended to receive helmets, often M1916/18 Stalhelms, Fuerer helmets or foreign helmts such as Sloval or Italian. On occasion these helemts were also marked with the unit numeric as seen in the units around Poznan.

Civilian clothes were worn and Hitlerjugend members wore their service uniforms.

Those wearing full uniforms tended to be Police units serving in the Volksturm or military personnel assigned to the units.

Those are brush painted.... I use Vallejo paints and Kolinsky sable brushes.

No magnification, just me old eyeballs.

Cheers for the compliment, makes alot of hard work feel worthwhile, but there are loads of people better at painting than me.

Thats why I like this hobby, there is always someone pushing the boundaries of what is possible.
