Daemonic Possession indicates that the vehicle ignores the effects of Crew Shaken and Crew Stunned on a 2+.

I'm assuming that the hull point still gets taken off, as the hit isn't ignored, just the effects.

I received a Mauler/Forgefiend for Christmas and haven't given Daemonic Possession much thought with the new codex, as it's not an option that I take. Since those models get it as part of their wargear, and I'll be fielding it soon, I wanted to make sure I had my head wrapped around it right.

Correct, it still took the hit/pen. Just the effect of shaken/stunned can be ignored.

Right the hull point is still gone but they can move and shoot. At the end of your turn you get to roll for it will not die, 5+ and your Hull point is back.
