I've posted this issue on numerous other forums, I've tried to contact Nvidia several times and gotten no response, so Dakka is the last place I have to turn to. I have tried multiple times to install the Nividia 306.97 driver on my Alienware m11x R1, but every time I do so, when it restarts, I am greeted by bad resolution, my icons are huge and occupy the entire screen, and when I try to go to the nvidia control panel, it says a nvidia graphics card could not be detected. When I restore my system, everything works fine again, but I'm stuck using the old 296.10 driver. This is VERY frustrating, because I have tried to install the 306.97 driver around five times, and every time I have gotten the same result. Here is a screenshot:

Does anyone have ANY idea of how to fix this? I'm about to (figuratively of course) crush my graphics card with a hammer.

you are installing the wrong, or bad drivers, thats the long and short of it.
If your pc is displaying a resolution the card does not support, or wrong drivers, you'll get that effect

I'm getting them right from Nividia. I'm quite sure it is not a bad driver. Maybe I'm getting the wrong version or something when it autodetects?

Isn't your pc a laptop? As far as I know laptops have different drivers compared to desktops. Also why do you want to update? If it aint broke don't fix it.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

You are downloading the wrong drivers, you may have an nvidia card but different manufacturers do different things with the chipset, get them from there.

If all else fails try and ATI Radeon card. You can get better results for cheaper and compatibility is less of an issue.
