Just curious if there are other sites than kickstart. Only thing that puts me off backing games on there is the usual "+$20 shipping outside US" ontop of the $50 i just paid (or would have done).

Kickstarter does have a uk presence now so you'll see a few projects appearing in £

eg

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1227636741/metal-15mm-scifi-future-war-neo-british-miniatures?ref=live

Indiegogo is the other big player, I've seen campaigns in euros and dollars

eg (one I'm backing)

http://www.indiegogo.com/Haar/x/893194

A BIG difference from KS is the campaign type (shown just under the time left)

If it says Fixed it works like KS except that your pledge is taken immediatly you make it via paypal

If it says Flexable it takes the money when you pledge as above BUT if the campaign fails to hit it's target the company still gets to keep it and push the project on as far as they can... a recipie for massive deleys or no product at the end of the day

If they are US projects, their products have to be shipped to you internationally. And until the Star Trek Beamer is invented, you have to pay for that whatever the website. I know that it's always dissapointing when people don't give you something for free

Ment more at the lack of projects based closer so i can avoid the extra fees on top. Didnt realise, thought KS was ALL USA

Up until a few months ago, it was only USA (though some companies like Mantic managed to work around the legalities by having a US partner deal with the finance issues). Think it was October or around then that the site opened up to EU based programs as well.

Regarding the shipping though, keep in mind that even at $20 shipping - there is a good chance they are actually shipping things at a loss. For whatever reason - the various options to ship from the US overseas are very expensive. Even relatively small shipments cost a substantial amount (just spent about $100 to ship out a couple dozen Christmas cards to Europe and Asia).

Don't forget that Brits spend a lot on minis, at least in the GW slipstream

This is from GW's financial report last year. I can only guess it would be similar in distribution for Mantic, Hawk Wargames, Mongoose, etc..
