I'm a fairly new ork player, and I've recently tried experimenting with new units. I tried playing with Deffkoptas several times recently and from all the experience I've had with them, they EXTREMELY unimpressive. I like the idea of a fast moving, Twin-Linked weapons platform (cause face it, that appeals to EVERYONE more than likely), so I've been thinking of converting some buggies. Instead of putting time into converting and just finding out they're worse than Koptas, I'd like to ask the opinions of you guys.

I've heard many opinions both supporting and bashing Koptas and Buggies. I know they each have their own advantages, and I have thought about it quite a lot. I would like to know what you guys think and I wouldn't mind either mathematic or anecdotal evidence with your claims. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Well I dont have much experience with buggies myself, but I know some player on here swear by them (especially KC) because they are cheap and you can use them to block LOS so you can advance your army up farther and either avoid getting shot up or atleast get a cover save.

For deffkoptas your best bet is to ourflank them and use them to pop some armor in the backfield. I like the TL rokkits, but since youll most likly be hitting back/side armor, TL big shootas work pretty well and are cheaper.

So instead of thinking of Buggiest as weapon platforms, I should instead think of them as just really cheap and fast screens for vehicles?

Try TL-big shoota koptas outflanking with a biker boss. Maybe a buzzsaw so both units are scary in assault

I've tried TL-rokkit koptas many times and the friggin things aren't worth the plastic they're made of gamewise.

I'd say neither, I prefer to use my FA slots for Dakkajets (and Stormboyz/Blitza Bommaz if I feel daring) but if I had to make a choice, I'd take Deffkoptas. Ignoring terrain and moving faster (not to mention Scouting), a good T and save opposed to AV10 are totally worth it IMO. Concerning weapons, I believe everything works except the Bigbomm-pick your gear to meet your army's needs, probably TL BS for anti-infantry and general annoyance, or TL RL/Buzzsaw for all round killing/can opening.

Is Kharn a Commissar that kills enemies or are Commissars Kharn wannabe's who don't have the balls to kill enemies?

There is a major toss-up between the two, though from what I find between buggies and deffkoptas is that their roles are different.

Between Rokkitbuggies and Rokkitkoptas:
-Buggies tend to be used as a screen to protect units and that is about it the rokkits are there for pot-shots
-Deffkoptas are the actual tank-hunters, used to outflank or just outmaneuver and take out vehicles a plenty.

Though personally, I have used koptas more. They can zip across the field with their cover save and blast units, and/or they outflank and you can say bye-bye to things like devastators or basilisks.

Terrain matters too - buggies are better at hiding behind it, koptas are better at flying over it.

Koptas need not the cover if they use the jinx save, and they avoid any slowing from terrain at the same time. Buggies gotta go around or through.

I like large units of Deff Koptas. In one out of six missions they count as scoring units that I can attach my Warbiker Warboss to. Armed either way they can destroy Manticores (as can buggies).

It also depends on the rest of your army. I spam a lot of AV 10 and throwing in 6 rokkitbuggies adds a lot more on cheap as chips. This also means they can hunt tanks more as the board is flooded with cheap armour.

Im with MrMoustaffa, even being TL, rokkits dont just do it for me, they never seem to hit when you need them to, and only seem to reliably hit troops for some reason So I just stick with Bigshootas on damn near everything, and find other ways of popping vehicles. Be that drive by power klaws, lootas or a mass of TL bigshootas to the rear. Bigshootas to me now, are the tits, good power good range and cheeeeeap!

But saying that, really asking which is better koptas, or buggies, like in 5th edition, depends on how you want to play your army, because both have a different method to them. Buggies, I run them mostly over koptas. Buggies are meant to be a screen and protect the rest of your fast army. They cut off areas of board, they can help funnel your opponent to a better killzone for you, or get shot at/assaulted instead. Which I dont care, because they are cheap and meant for that anyways. And with TL bigshootas, I know Ill hit something.

Koptas I run 1 mob with my boss as mentioned on here as well. Awesome fun here. Keep em cheap like MrMoustaffa said. Big shootas and 1 buzzsaw. That way your boss can outflank with them and either split later and have 2 units tear a tank apart each, OR keep em together and you now have a hit n run biker boss. That....is awesome sauce. But koptas are meant, on their own, for getting on the board DEEP and hit things fast. They are basically a quick strike harasing unit, that need to be dealt with NOW.
