As we all know christmas is dawning apon us and I simply can't make up my mind if I want an xbox 360 or ps3 for christmas. I am thinking of the ps3 because you get the same games as the xbox 360 and you also dont have to buy a membership at £14 for a year as playstation network is free.
Also can you get zombies on ps3 call of duty games? and can you play ps2 games on the ps3?

Otherwise, I'd say look up what games you're interested in. The only real difference between the two these days is the exclusive titles and online features.

My view: the cheapest pre owned platform you can find. It won't be long before the next generation consoles are released I should think

You can pick up a new PS3 Super Slim for under £190 now. I would go for the PS3 if I were you and if your desperate to own a current gen console, however, if you wait a couple of years (2013 and 2014 respectfully) you can get the newer gen consoles.

New consoles will be out next year.

If you want to play games online, I would say Xbox 360. There's halo and gears of war and skyrim DLC is a timed exclusive through the 360.

If you want a blu ray player and games like heavy rain and uncharted I would go with the ps3.

From what I keep reading, a lot of the exclusives that each console have had in the past are a lot less exclusive.

I would go with an xbox360 though. I bought mine 6 years ago and never second guessed myself on it.

I wouldn't jump on the new consoles next year just yet. Sony and Microsoft previously were content to wait till 2014 2015 to start looking at Gen 8. The Wii U I think has been revealed not to be a grave threat to their market share, so baring information to the contrary there's no reason to believe that Microsoft of Sony have changed their plans.

Purportedly, we're looking at next winter for Microsoft's new console.

We'll see I guess. I'm not sure why Microsoft would make the move though. They're still selling plenty of 360's and they only just released the Kinect last year.

PS3.

Honestly, there's not much of a difference anymore. Both have pro's and con's system-wise, and that's all a matter of personal preference. As for exclusives, they're few and far anymore as most popular games are multi-platform.

As for new systems next year, I sure hope not. I just picked up a 360 on Black Friday this year! Haha.

I have actually noticed a difference in performance between the PS3 and the 360.
I noticed that the intro of Skyrim on 360 (where the big dragon comes and feths gak up) it lags. The framerate dropped horribly at parts of that.
This (as far as I have seen) doesn't happen on PS3.
Also the PS3 is set for a long run of future games as it runs 4 cores whereas the 360 (iirc) only runs 2.
Also PSN is free unlike Live.

I would always go PS3.

You can't play any Skyrim DLC on PS3 and haven't been able to do so for months on end.

I've noticed the same thing. My 360 came with a copy of Skyrim, and I think it plays and looks better on my PS3.

It's because the 360 is still using old architecture even the newest one. They haven't had any hardware upgrades really since the original 360 and now they struggle to play newer games.
Sony had the future in mind when they made the PS3 and basically future proofed them for at least 5 years.

I have auto-save activated on my PS3, and I've never had a lagging problem. Weird.

I think it's one of those things where you'd be hard pressed to find some one in real life that had lag on their PS3 Skyrim game but if you google "PS3 Skyrim lag" you get tons of results. Typical internet.

As was briefly touched on before, if you fancy any kind of online play roll with the 360.

The online ps3 community was a pretty big let down coming from the 360.

Although personally I find the ps3 to be a much better media playback device

My biggest problem with the 360 was one they pretty soundly fixed. I got tired of having to replace my 360. Seriously I went through like 4 xboxes until finally deciding to get a console that doesn't reliably die.

Except you have to pay for online play on the 360.

I am all for the 360. I like the dashboard set up better. The "Store" on the 360 is better. The PS3 store doesn't even work for me anymore since they made it a app. Plus I like the controllers for the 30 more than the PS3.

Oh, I didn't mean it in that way. CoD will always have 12 years olds who can't swear correctly and flaming racists no matter which console it's on.

When I say it was a let down I mean it wasn't nearly as large or as active. That and it flat out just sucked connection wise all the time.

I'll eat a 15 dollar cost to get a superior online experience over a free connection that spotty as hell.

Both the Xbox and PS3 communities can be gak online. Its just more people used the microphones on 360 so its more vocal.

In regards to the OP the differences between the consoles are minimal. Pick the console with the controller or exclusives you prefer.

I completely forgot about that. Online gaming is soooo much better with voice communications, and in my time playing Blazblue, Mortal Kombat, and CoD MW2 and WaW, I can count on one hand how many times I ran into someone using a microphone.

I think PS3 doesn't have cross game chat.

Got a 160gb PS3 for christmas.

Dammit....I forgot If you can get tranzit on black ops 2 on the ps3....
