Title says it all. I'm very interested in both games, they both have some sweet gameplay and graphics. I'm just quite torn between them.

Does anyone know if far cry has auto run? That would be a deal breaker for me if it didn't, like playing skyrim with no auto run...

on the forum. Obviously

If you beat the main questline in FC3, you can explore and do missions at your own pace. The problem though is that there isn't really anything to do.

I would go for XCOM; I found it to be a more satisfying experience.

EDIT: Oh herp derp, I understand what auto-run means now. No, farcry 3 does not have a auto-run key.

Are you playing on pc? I ask because skyrim has an autorun key.

While I loved the original xcom to death, the new one didn't hold my interest very long

Haven't played FC3, but from the things I've heard I think I'd rather go with it.

I'd suggest trying both out before buying. Two very different types of games, and I'm pretty sure your interests don't match mine to the letter.

PC gamer. Loved all the old xcom games, particularly terror from the deep.

Both these games look very good and likely to have good replay value

Replay wise I think xcom would win out.

It should be worth noting that FC3 needs Uplay to be played, meaning that you will have to jump through a few hoops.
Maybe you can use steam to circumvent it, I dunno.

I had them both for the Xbox, so far Far Cry 3 has been a blast to play and it all looks really nice and even after I've completed it it's still fun to drive around and just generally mess about.

Xcom was a really fun game and the table top feel it had felt like it was actually there, I had times when I was right infront of an enemy only to miss the shot, I guess you could say the virtual dice gods hated me eh?

I would say it depends on what kind of game you would rather play, Far Cry 3 is more of an open world first person shooter mixed with Red Dead Redemption and Xcom was a turn based table top game with really cool environments and even though the missions repeated themselves it was always fun trying to get the rookies their first kill.

I might re-buy xcom now....

Go Xcom, i got Far cry 3 and the damn thing crashes the story line every half hour, the online is bugged as it will say your weapon leveled up but it stays at lvl 1, you character classes keep getting erased, ect..... Ive tried to crank down the graphics on it, and unistalled and reinstall it but the damn games just a giant steaming pile of unsatisfaction, on the plus side it looks nice

WAAAHG!!! until further notice

X-COM has is a superior tactical game to the old X-COMs but the strategic game is inferior so that may help you decide if you will enjoy it. It is still a very good game though.

I haven't yet played FC3 but I have heard good things about it and I intend to get it myself. Uplay is an embuggerance although at least it isn't GFWL You can also get cracks to remove it should you desire..

I personally prefer FC3, from what I've heard. It just has a well-driven story, brilliant characters and good mechanics. X-COM, to be honest, jst never really attracted me. I love both Dawn of War and the Civ games, but even though X-Com seems to be a merge of the two it just seems too random and as far as I can tell, somewhat glitchy.

Thus far FarCry3 has yet to keep any of my manual saves (It only keeps the game's autosaves at checkpoints), so I'd say X-Com until this bug is completely fixed.

I had that too, lost 5 hours of gameplay. Never playing Farcry 3 again.

Then again, Xcom has way more bugs so I'm not playing that either.

Oddly enough, the saves being lost isn't what stops me wanting to play, it's the getting attacked by tigers every ten seconds...

I have played through x-com a few times and almost finished farcry 3 now.

Both are crazy fun and I have not seen a bug in either - barring graphical silliness that has no real bearing on gameplay.

And I had a hard time finding tigers. . . .

I'd be okay with spiders in Far Cry, it's the giant, hulking fantasy monstrosities you get in games like Skyrim that freak me out. In Far Cry, chances are it's barely large enough to see, and I doubt it can beat a machete to the face.

I have a hard time finding anything but tigers, especially at outposts I've just liberated. The second one I liberated got attacked by 3 tigers one right after the other, and I only survived by hiding in the little safe house with the gun vendor and waiting until they buggered off/more guys came by in a car.

But the animals are what makes it fun! It's actually really useful to create a sense of danger and an exotic taste to the island.

I can see how it might help the ambiance if every time I tried to go anywhere I didn't have to kill off an entire species to get there.

I have a habit of falling off destroyed bridges, running into a car full of enemies, or otherwise sustaining critical injury whilst behind the wheel of whatever it was that I managed to wrap around a tree/wall/angry animal.

Farcray 3 has a lot of annoying things. The mission design is tedious (oh look another burning/collapsing building!) and I have had 2 bugged scripts so far meaning that I had to load to an earlier save

Some of the NPCs are well done, Buck and Vaas especially but in both cases the end result was just silly. The former made no sense and in the latter I'm still not sure what the hell happened.

Its a good 'open' world, aside from those damned radio towers, but the missions have become a chore which is a shame as the story started out well (for an FPS game at least).

Also the quick time events are no fun at all.

Are you sure that the saved game thing is a bug? This is a game designed for consoles after all.

Animals aren't hostile unless you are just about on top of them and as they make a lot of noise its easy to just avoid them. The hunter quest for the golden tiger is an excersize in frustration though, I died soooo many times.

Try One Horn. Not only is your shotgun terrible, the Buffalo charges at you whenever you move within 5 meters. Really, very annoying.

Use the syringe that makes animals not attack you, then knife them to death.

The hunts also allow knife kills.

I didn't have a problem with that one, I do remember that it took a good few hits though.

I got the tiger as ne of my first Hunter missions so I didn't have anything in the way of hunting syringes other than the awareness one. I took it down eventually but still it was annoying.

Ok well, I didn't buy either of these games during the Steam sale. I got spoiled by cheap awesome games, and while both of these games look sweet, they aren't cheap.

My gaming time has been occupied with The Sims 3 and Batman Arkham Asylum. And a good deal of Phoenix HD on my ipad and iphone. Actually can't say enough good things about Phoenix HD. If you like old school shoot em ups, its the game to get.

I'm gonna wait for these games to drop down to $15 or less. I've too damn many awesome games to play atm, and these games can wait. They look awesome, but its like, which awesome game do I want to play right now, at this point?

Both are great games, I'd definatly get both. FC3 first then Xcom though. Xcom didnt last very long for me and was fun but did kind of drag out and I couldnt play it for more than a couple hours at a time. I just got FC3 a few days ago and its alot of fun (IF I COULD FIND FREAKIN PIGS)
