Hi, I've decided I like this theme for an army from codex Chaos Space Marines with no CSM in it. No CSM crewed tanks, no cult troops, nothing that was once a Space Marine.

With this in mind I've written this list. It's not to be taken too seriously, and the most important thing for me is that it is fun for me and my opponent.

HQ

1 x Daemon Prince
- Daemon of Khorne
- Blade of Blind Fury
- Boon of Mutation (Power Armour deliberately left off)
- Wings

TROOPS

15 x Chaos Cultists
- 13 x Autogun
- 1 x Heavy Stubber
- 1 x Shotgun

15 x Chaos Cultists
- 13 x Autogun
- 1 x Heavy Stubber
- 1 x Shotgun

15 x Chaos Cultists
- 13 x Autogun
- 1 x Heavy Stubber
- 1 x Shotgun

15 x Chaos Cultists
- 13 x Autogun
- 1 x Heavy Stubber
- 1 x Shotgun

FAST ATTACK

1 x Heldrake
- Baleflamer

1 x Heldrake
- Baleflamer

5 x Chaos Spawn

HEAVY SUPPORT

1 x Maulerfiend
- Lasher Tendrils

1 x Maulerfiend
- Lasher Tendrils

1 x Maulerfiend
- Lasher Tendrils

1500 points on the nose. Seems a little spammy to me but it was the best I could do whilst keeping in the theme. Hopefully you can give me some ideas I haven't thought of already.

Most importantly would you enjoy fighting this army? And what changes should I make to make it more casual friendly?

All demon princes were, at some point, space marines.

I like the list. It has a very interesting theme. However, I do think that you will struggle with vehicles. Hellbrutes are good in theory, but melee AT is often better on paper than actually on the board.

EDIT: Actually, I suppose a cultist can technically ascend to a demon prince, can't they?

Any chaos champion can ascend. Space marines are the most common because they're generally more potent than other followers of chaos.

I like the list but think you could do better.
I'd drop the DP, far too expensive and relatively easy to kill.
I'd max out on Spawn and drop the Helldrakes.

15 Spawn and 3 Maulerfiends charging in will be quite hard for any army to deal with.
Then think about allies, what can synergise well with this rush list?

Hmmmm, Flamers and Screamers?
Wraiths and some night sythes for capturing objectives?

That I think would be very very sick.

I suspect the reason the daemon Prince is in there is because he's the only CSM HQ choice that's not a Chaos Space Marine?

I think you've got some potential with this list, but you'll run into problems against some specific opponents - the one that immediately springs to mind is 'nids. You don't have he firepower to take down the big nasties, and they will kill your maulerfiends in close combat without to much trouble.

What about swapping out for some forgefiends or defilers?

Thanks for the feedback. I've given this list some more consideration and have come up with the following list. The idea is to have as many different units to cover as many different roles as possible.

HQ

1 x Daemon Prince
- Daemon of Khorne
- Axe of Blind Fury
- Gift of Mutation
- Wings

TROOPS

20 x Chaos Cultists
- 17 x Autogun
- 2 x Heavy Stubber
- 1 x Shotgun

20 x Chaos Cultists
- 17 x Autogun
- 2 x Heavy Stubber
- 1 x Shotgun

20 x Chaos Cultists
- 17 x Autogun
- 2 x Heavy Stubber

FAST ATTACK

1 x Heldrake
- Baleflamer

5 x Chaos Spawn

HEAVY SUPPORT

1 x Maulerfiend
- 2 x Lasher Tendrils

1 x Maulerfiend
- 2 x Lasher Tendrils

1 x Forgefiend
- 3 x Ectoplasma Cannon

FORTIFICATION

1 x Aegis Defence Line
- 1 x Quad-gun

ARMY TOTAL - 1500

Do you think this is an improvement?

try and make some room for a black mace on your daemon prince and if you can give him mark of nurgle

I thought about going Nurgle but not being able to catch my enemies in a Sweeping Advance (especially since he is I8) would really hurt.

I tend to put him in reserve unless there is a nice big bit of LoS blocking terrain or I'm going first.

Daemon Princes cab only have on weapon. As well, Daemon Princes don't get the mark of their god, instead, they become a daemon of that god with different bonuses than the mark. So a nurgle daemon prince will not get +1T.

You may want to consider giving your cultisits a mark (MoT and MoN will be the best for enhancing durability). And yes, that list is better than the first.

I play Space Marines, Dark Angels, Blood Angels, Astra Militarum, Militarum Tempestus, Chaos Space Marines, Dark Eldar, Eldar, Orks, Adepta Sororitas, 'Nids, Necrons, Tau and Grey Knights.
